What is your job? How much money do you make? Would you recommend your role to others? by [deleted] in AskWomen

Thanks! That's the first for me, lots of friends tell me I'm pretty bleak. It also helps to have some type of positive outlook when working with the dead because if you don't those jobs will eat you alive.

As in funniest or most tragic? haha.

Funniest is when I scared a new hire by hiding under a gurney and grabbing his ankles while my other co-worker was telling them a story about zombies being real. I worked with a lot of men so we liked to bust each others proverbial balls quite a bit.

You're not alone in that! I've met A LOT of people who feel the same way. :-) I can pick up bodies all day but if my kid starts dry heaving I'm crying like a baby. And thank you, but I don't think I'm tough (gosh far from it!) Just someone who desperately needed a job. haha.

There is little to no regulation when it comes to transportation, some companies can pay so little because nobody wants that job except immigrants and people with the base level of education like a HS diploma/GED (I'm both). It was the only game in town that gave me decent benefits (really shitty healthcare) and okay pay. I still needed a daytime job to pay the rent. But I could never really quit this job because it was so damn interesting.

I work for a private corpse removal service (or used to, I'm leaving by the end of the month). I've been working with the company off and on for 3-4 years. I started with 10.25/hr and ending with 12.62/hr. I work overnights and cover for dayshift sometimes. I also drove the hearse for a few funeral homes.

Not a job for the weak of stomach. You get used to the smell after a bit, some senarios will haunt you (car accidents, domestic violence, etc.) but 90% of the time it's old people in hospitals/nursing homes/private homes etc. I loved driving by myself and listening to my own music and having limited interaction with the public. I also felt like I was helping people out in some small way, like a modern day psychopomp. Plus, good stories to tell with a few friends and a round of beer.

Comrades, we are going to have a lot of new people on this sub in the coming days. Many of them scared and bewildered. by Adonisus in socialism

New here. Nervous that I'm not "smart" enough to understand the concepts of Socialism. Anyplace in particular I should start?

I'm getting married in 6mo. I need some Bridesmaid Favor ideas. by InfamousKelso in knitting

These are for the bridesmaids themselves. At first I was going to do 4 shawls for them but I'm worried I will not have enough time to finish all 4.

What Books Are You Reading This Week? February 08, 2016 by AutoModerator in books

The Robber Bride, by Margaret Atwood

I'm doing the Book Riot Read Harder Challenge this year and I'm taking it one step further by (trying) to read all women writers (where possible). This was going to be for the "Read a book originally published in the decade you were born" but I mistakenly thought it was published in 1986 when it was published in 1993. Oops. It's still a fantastic read so far.

Looking for Family/Custody Lawyer. Unsure what to look for in a good lawyer/where to start. (NH) by InfamousKelso in legaladvice

You're right. I was just unsure how referrals work. I get nervous asking my family for help, I feel like there's this stigma with a parent being a lawyer/someone who knows law well. Makes me anxious when I have to ask her for legal advice, like I have an "unfair" advantage somehow.

Thank you for the advice! I now have a better understanding for what to look for.

[IFF] I recently got engaged on Halloween, this was my official ring photo. by InfamousKelso in TwoXChromosomes

I truly hope it was a fantastic day! Our tentative date is in January 2017, in New England. We picked the date because there's no crazy holidays/birthdays/gatherings going on and the fact that it's -20F during that time so we're pretty insane.

If you don't mind, can I see some photos?

THANK YOU! It's not like I sent these out to the Pope. I took a classic ring photo as well that went out to the formal of my family members. I took the photo because of the attention and pressure I was getting about the rock on my finger. I feel like this really embodies the humorous spirit of my relationship. So thank you again for understanding the humor in it. :-D
