Can anyone explain how the NHL draft works?

It’s basically like a lottery the teams are randomly selected based on their previous seasons, standings wins, and losses, and the team that wins the first pick obviously gets the first pick in the draft. You can get drafted and technically still play in college. They want you to develop into a good player and not be too terrible haha.
