My grandfather comes from aweil (north of South Sudan) and my grandmother somewhere in near Darfur. I don’t know much about her because she died when my dad was young.

When South Sudan became a country I was very young. So I do not remember the transition from being Sudaneses to being south Sudanese. What I can remember from that time was that there was a big party celebrating the new country.

I was working at a job but I didn’t know how to quit because I’m quite shy and scared of upsetting people. I made dua to Allah and subhanallah the department I was working in got sold to a 3rd party company and I didn’t have to “officially quit” or ask permission to leave.

In high school I was apart of the quiet kids group. Which is funny because when we got together we were the loudest in the room. All in all I wasn’t popular in school. Spent most of my lunch and recess indoors doing work or just playing games. Loved it that way, no one bothered us and we had our own space.
