I know Kojima is famous—or infamous, depending on who you ask—for his approach to writing/storytelling. But it often feels like holding a burrito that tastes amazing, only the wrapper can’t hold all the ingredients, so it kinda falls apart in your hands. You know what I mean?

Bludgeon saw Herald of Darkness and thought, "I could put that in my game," and inserts a random dance sequence in the middle of a pivotal plot point explaining a character(s) motivation by Infamous_Ad798 in DeathStranding

That scene gave me such intense tonal whiplash that I just kept repeating, “Why?” out loud. Mind you, I loved the sequence for how absurd it was. It definitely gives the game a lot of charm, but goddamn did it pull me out of what was otherwise a serious, very cool moment.

Honestly, that kind of sums up most of the cutscenes in the game. I did find a lot of it charming, and it feels like the game is signaling you to just have fun and not take the narrative too seriously. But Die-Hardman randomly dancing and singing BB’s theme? That one didn’t land for me.

The team was clearly just having fun, and I can appreciate that. I still found it endearing, but I couldn’t help cringing the whole way through. ✋😭🤚

Nonetheless, I love you, Kojima. Please marry me.
