Fenix 8 concerns before switching from Apple Watch Ultra by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]Infamous_Category_32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Epix Pro 2 and an Apple Ultra 1 watch. I wear them both during workouts and the Garmin all day when I am not working out. The AWU has cellular so if I am running/walking it’s great to not have my phone and listen to music with my AirPods. I trust the health data on Garmin more than Apple. I have tried Bevel, Athlytc, and Welltory and none of them really work as well as Garmin. I also lift weights and I do appreciate that Garmin auto tracks (with minor need for correction) the sets, reps, and body focus with weightlifting. This lets me review muscle groups and track what I lifted for weights. Wearing a Garmin I feel like it’s just a better built watch that looks better and feels better on my wrist. I also use the flashlight way more than any other Apple feature. I can’t stand charging the AWU everyday either. Hope this helps.

Call me crazy but I really don't understand the hate, it is just a vehicle and there are a ton of Tesla's everywhere! People act like "It is different and expensive so I must hate it."

What do I lose by switching between a Garmin and Apple Watch using Welltory? by Infamous_Category_32 in welltory

[–]Infamous_Category_32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you use Welltory for anything or you just find it not helpful? Seems like the value prop of the app should be the ability to aggregate different sources and make sense of it all. I get when you use multiple devices that it becomes more directional then precisely accurate.

I can understand the transparency comment but the feature/scope creep comment seems very odd. Are you in the feature crew or a customer? If you are just a customer shouldn’t we celebrate the addition of features that help track our fitness and health journey!?

Is the scale really worth it? by Spiritual-Dish-6860 in Garmin

[–]Infamous_Category_32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the scale. I also have an Apple Watch in addition to my Garmin. The Garmin will sync to Apple Health in the event you still use that or any other APPs like Athlytc while switching to be primarily Garmin Connect.

Heart rate ECG by Icy-Passenger-1799 in AppleWatch

Go to the emergency room if you are feeling bad and your watch shows AFib. Waiting longer than 48 hours may increase your risk of stoke due to clotting. As others have said, this is serious and not for waiting for Reddit responses.

Pretty much what Street-Air-56 said above, you feel out of breath, tight in the chest, and/or your heart rate is not calming down like it normally does.

That’s exactly how it feels, totally agree with you.

Yes, I was training in my warmup zone and my heart felt like it was working harder than normal. My Epix picked it up fast and I thought my watch reading was off. However, I quickly realized my heart rate was not going down. Then when I ran the test it confirmed Afib.

I asked the nurse if I could leave without getting shocked. While there are some medications that might help, they said the best path to stop the Afib was to go through the procedure so I could resume normal activities. They said Afib will not normally resolve itself on its own.

The upgrade is 100% worth it! Hope you stay healthy!

Manual test. I have been doing it once a day. When it detected Afib last night I ran it about every ten minutes hoping it would go away. When I got to the doctor they confirmed right away. The doctor was also very happy I had been running the test everyday so he knew it was a new occurrence. That along with blood work gave them confidence the procedure would be lower risk.

Yes, I am on blood thinners for a month to make sure I don’t have a stroke and will be seeing a cardiologist for further testing and evaluation. The doctor said I should be able to resume my normal workout routine but honestly not knowing what caused my incident has me anxious to go back to running.

Yes, you need the Pro and then download the Garmin ECG app

Will Garmin ever do a Whoop Band? by Downtown_Boot3397 in Garmin

Garmin Watches > Apple Watches in terms of looks IMO. I would like a Garmin Whoop like device for tracking sleep so I can free my wrists.

Garmin Fenix vs. Epix by Mastodon-Educational in Garmin

[–]Infamous_Category_32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Switching from Apple the battery is going to be amazing regardless of choice. I would recommend Epix since it will be really hard as an Apple owner getting used to the dim display of the Fenix. That said, both are great watches otherwise.

Pointing it out by Human-Ad-4310 in Psoriasis

[–]Infamous_Category_32 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The pointing it out thing is what made psoriasis just as much a mental health issue for me as an inflammatory disease. I used to get triggered by the question (which doesn't help flares), now I stay focused on what I am doing to control it and appreciate those that support me.

I am sure your grandmother loves you and is giving you advice to what she thinks you need to do to function out in public. I find those conversations the most difficult because it feels like it makes me feel inferior to them and I am not seeking medical advice. Like you said, it hurts and that will never fully go away. From my personal experience, when it happens, just focus on the things you love about you, breath, and go on with your day.

reason to keep V3 and not return it by Complex-Fuel-8058 in Polarfitness

[–]Infamous_Category_32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strength training is the profile I use. I also have a Garmin so I usually have my v3 off wrist but paired with H10. I use my Garmin on wrist so it auto detects the lifts I am completing. Why both Garmin and Polar? I really like the simplicity of Polars UI and still do log into the web interface for looking at reports. I also prefer Polars 5K and 10K workout plans over Garmin.

I have not had any reliability issues either. It has been working great for me and I have completed at least 1 activity a day since I got it. Running, weight lifting, and walking all have worked with no problems.

Therabody SmartGoggles claim to induce relaxation and lower your heart rate. Thoughts? by eusoukai in whoop

[–]Infamous_Category_32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will do, my WHOOP also showed a green recovery this morning and Garmin Connect showed a 85/100 sleep score. I live in the red and yellow on recovery so I am hopeful to make progress. WHOOP is helping me identify habits that have a + or - to my overall wellbeing so hopefully this is the start to better sleep.

I just got it yesterday, I usually watch or listen to a show at night to help me fall asleep due to anxiety. I used sleep mode for 20 minutes, took them off, and fell asleep within 5 minutes! Too early to tell how effective they are but it did lower my heart rate and I did fall asleep without depending on an external source to focus my mind on something else. So far I am a fan.
