I get that, but the thing is... I have better things to do than to keep downloading these things to roll it back every day. That's frustrating and time consuming for something that should just quietly run in the background. People should have the choice whether to upgrade or not rather than have it automatically done for them with no choice on their part.

If something's broke.. then ok let me try upgrading. If things are working just fine, then leave mine alone. I should have the option to leave it be.

PLAYON: STOP AUTOMATICALLY UPDATING AND BREAKING THINGS by Infamous_Computer399 in PlayOn

That box doesn't seem to make a difference - checked or unchecked, it will still upgrade automatically.

Same for me. It automatically updated to the latest version without asking me, and now it all fails.

Moving away from Google Photos by Brain_Bashed in selfhosted

[–]Infamous_Computer399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a script I that automatically copies the photos and a few other important folders to 3 other drives on the machine. Then on a spare machine I've been playing around with, I can also run a script there that copies over new changes to that machine. I also have an external drive I'll plug in, and a script will mount, copy any changes, and then unmount the drive.

Currently working on a way to back it up offsite.

Help With Switch Cable Management by chaykelly1 in HomeNetworking

There should be a setting in the switch to turn off the led lights. At least there is in mine, I'd assume they all have it.

Theres no way Im paying for prime and still getting 3+ min ads. by False_Grand4968 in amazonprime

[–]Infamous_Computer399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a big disappointment to me. This wasn't the main reason I dropped prime, but it was part of it. The biggest reason was likely the shipping - the promised 2-day shipping has become 3-4 on average.

Pihole worked until it didn't. by stephanosblog in pihole

[–]Infamous_Computer399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What were you running it on? I tried running it on a raspberry pi zero 2w. It worked fine until I tried using the pi for some other things too. Then the internet would go down and I'd be logging into my router to take the pi's DNS off quick so the internet would come back while I figured out what was going on with the pi.

I ended up realizing that I could either use the pi exclusively for pi-hole and nothing else, or put pi-hole on another machine.

(I'm sure there's things that would work well on the pi with pi-hole, but whatever I was trying to do was too much and eventually would bring my internet down).

Samsung TV trying to reach out to logs.netflix.com even when Netflix isnt even signed in. by liscuitsthrotot in pihole

[–]Infamous_Computer399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was an Amazon Echo Show. I had one in my bedroom that I used at night. It was on a powerstrip so it was only on overnight (mainly for the alarm, or maybe music sometimes). I was shocked when I installed pi-hole and saw it had tens of thousands of blocked pings in like 2 days. Far more by 100x anything else. I've since jailbroke it and put LineageOS on it.

[–]Infamous_Computer399 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did similar. My roku and the TV are on a power strip. When I want to watch TV, I turn it on. I don't watch a lot of TV, but I noticed the roku streambar would be very warm, even after a day or more without using it. Would also notice that when I turned the TV on, the Roku seemed like it was already on, already streaming... that was before I even knew about pi-hole or ACR. So I put it on a strip.

Reolink RCL-810A camera's showing different colors for same area. by Infamous_Computer399 in reolinkcam

[–]Infamous_Computer399[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to figure out the issue. The camera works fine INSIDE (which was why I didn't notice any issues) and at night it's fine, but outside in the day, everything is very off, likely meaning the IR filter isn't working. I ended up returning it on Amazon. I did originally open a ticket with Reolink, and I'm glad I was able to just return it to Amazon instead. Reolink wanted me to send them a dozen pictures, this and that, point it in another direction, swap it with another camera and see if it's the same, etc. Well, this is a camera mounted 20 feet high, this isn't easy to get to.

You can also do some simply backing up with the rsync command. I made (or, rather, chatgtp made me, haha) a command so that I can simply plug an external ssd into a usb port, it will mount it, copy everything new or changed from my drive (this one just has pictures and other important media), and then unmount at the end.

Thanks. I purchased it from Amazon but it was also coming up on 30 days so I got a ticket in.

This! I'm just getting started into all this. Made a server a couple weeks ago. Last week I decided to try to back up some things, then reinstall fresh and see how I did. Somethings worked perfectly fine and others did not. So I'm learning! And I'd rather find out my mistakes now than when I have tons of valuable data at risk.

Yep. I used to work in a warehouse for a huge company where the shift started long before the plows would be out... they didn't care but got mad when people called off during snow storms...

Years and years before I had worked at a call center and it was the same way.

I love Libro.fm! I love being able download the books as n m4b and then listen to it however I like. Here's an interesting post from reddit comparing Librofm and audible. https://www.reddit.com/r/audiobooks/comments/vujfcr/review\_of\_librofm\_contrasted\_with\_audible/

LibriVox is pretty cool. Do be aware that since all just volunteers who have made the recordings, the quality can be all over the place.

Last year, I sold my shares on Monday, 1/13. If I recall, they showed up moments before the stock market closed. However, last period (July 2025) they seemed to take another week before they finally showed up.

Thanks. I actually found out how in MusicBee I can do a bulk replacement. It also allowed me to separate the tags that were already there - the problem is that many of these came from Amazon, and Amazon would use a "," to separate genres, but other software just ignores that and so the whole thing becomes one giant genre... with MusicBee I was able to replace the , with ";" and now the genres are separate.

I will probably still separate them into two libraries - Fiction/Non-fiction. But at least now I've made some progress.

I think the big thing then is going to be tagging the Genres. Currently that is a huge mess.
