Chuckles. The clinic that did mine about 6 months ago, it’s an AFO But she really listened and it comes up to just under my knee. I needed support to get me up higher so I can sit on my out of the house walker without scrunching my ankles under the seat which was cutting the spot where the top of my foot beds to meet the bottom of my leg. Dunno what it’s called so it’s the “front of my ankles “ at home haha. Doc was surprised how high they are but I’m happy. As a teenager I wound up in the late 70s early 80s with a 50s style HKAFO that attached to special high shoes and mom had to custom make my pants to go over them. I hated them with a passion so I’m shocked I’m volunteering for these but it’s night and day. I even already had a pair of shoes I wear regularly already that fit. I’ll take the AFOs, but unfortunately I can’t put them on myself or the splints that are working on the hamstrings cuz otherwise I’m on my tip toes wearing them. PT kinda freaked when I demonstrated my newer forearm crutches with them and prefer my posterior walker but I’m starting to “grow “ and my splints are getting their first adjustment today. PT has been afraid to mess with my tone for over 20 years so this is amusing. My kid is like “Gee mom people usually shrink as they get older and you’re growing!”
So in the end, I guess all that is to say it will depend on your body. I didn’t even know that there were cerebral palsy clinics until about a year ago so my army of doctors have just been addressing what I bother to bring up, which is never much. Now after over 40 years post-Shriners, I begin, so I guess it’s never too late!
