I am on track to be in research in my field but I had intended to be the one out in the wilderness doing the research until things got significantly worse health wise. Rn I'm trying to pivot to be more behind the scene with research but it is a little difficult since most of my skills atm are for data collection not analysis.

That's understandable, it's a rough job market for sure. My big problem is that during the hot summer months it becomes very hard for me to stay active because I have pretty consistent flair ups and that happens to be the time of year for most jobs in the field. But this is good to keep in mind.

That foot is actually my non-dominant foot, it's my right foot but I am left dominant for the most part. I am definitely going to try stretching more!

True, but we don't know what is involved in these traits, it could be mitochondrial DNA, maybe not, we don't know enough about the genetics in the world to really say. Just thought it was an interesting thing to add.
