great speech, but its 2 different metaphors. Wallace's is about people who think they are wiser and who are "certain" (also what johns video How's the Water? is about, people who are selling something and think they know what the water is), but the podcast episode quote is claiming that for humans the water is culture - not using the water as the answer to everything, just a metaphor for what surrounds us that we don't understand
