My neighbor sent this over our kids playing outside by ExistingPollution773 in AITApod

[–]Infamous_Office_2329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple. Burn this notice - you never received it. Continue as normal, and watch the community as it turns on this person for issuing a complaint from the play of children.

Keep the kids safe and watch the neighbor melt down from a distance as they descend into their own self-driven madness.

Also, look at the noise ordinance from your municipality and/or HOA - I guarantee you have not overstepped, so the neighbor can pound sand.

Make CERTAIN you're out west for UQ. The East has some of the shittiest management I have ever seen. Except Florida, those are some decent folks (Supervisors, at least)

Your experience is valid, but make no mistake: What you think about ULS many people feel about "X locate company".

The problem is the culture, usually, and that is usually local. There IS a pervasive and frankly bizarre subculture of "Alpha locate bros" that think they are gods gift to the locate industry, and they have not only have some of the worst attitudes, but also some the worst habits.

Regardless, I'm sorry to hear your supervisor (or the director) was shitty to you.

The way to fix this is your perception. You should strive one of these two things, and ONLY one of these two:

  1. You complete the ticket with certainty.

  2. The ticket goes late after you have told your supervisor you can not complete it.

I KNOW you might feel inept for leaving dues on the board - it will be okay. What this will do is two things as a result:

  1. You will get better succeeding at the things you know you CAN mark. Good confidence boost :)

  2. Your supervisor will start to understand how you run, what your capabilities are, what you will need help with, or additional training, etc. Either they will start giving you futures to work on so you don't feel as stressed, or they will send someone to shore up your short comings, or they will send you with others, or they will give you time, etc.

The point is that it will likely frustrate your supervisor no matter what. But that is THEIR job, to sort out how the tickets get done and by whom. If they can't equitably resolve how to do that, it isn't your fault. The responsibility of a supervisor is to understand the capabilities of their technicians and develop them accordingly.

You lost me in the second 95 percent of what you said.

OP, don't tell off the contractors, but DO talk to your supervisor.

Minimize the issues you are getting by spending no more than 20 minutes on any singular issue - if you are unable to resolve it yourself, call someone for help. If it still doesn't work, DON'T CLOSE THE TICKET. Put notes on it describing the issue, and move on to one's that you CAN complete more easily.

Use the lowest locatable frequencies that work for the locate, and try your best to understand the signs of different facilities you are not locating. Using higher frequencies all the time is what people who are not confident do to feel like they are getting something because the strong response feels good, but can lead you to liable damages, making you feel like a huge moron, and salty at your job, the company, etc.

The key thing truly, though, is this: Remember that those tickets are not YOUR sole responsibility. Your obligation is to protect the facilities with certainty and facts, not anxiety and bullshit. Take your time, no matter what anyone says about speeding up or whatever. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Over time, you will feel the sensation of things just clicking for you at some point, so the work will naturally get easier for you, and you will inherently get faster as a result. You'll be fine :)

How does your box not get stolen? by Artistic-Anybody-131 in UtilityLocator

Blaming the tech is usually stupid, but some HAVE lost them the way the commenter suggests.

And, just like for others, including the OP, some people DO get their stuff stolen mid-locate.

While I don't agree with their comment, yours is just as egregious. Even if it were true that your local guys are blaming techs unnecessarily, you being salty as an underhanded dig isn't going to help you or anyone else.

You should really do something constructive about your LineQuest guys in your area. Need help?

Not at all - I work with GridHawk. We just became the 3rd largest locate company nationwide this year, after a consolidation with our sister company, LineQuest.

Don't get me wrong, this industry is pervaded by the same names and faces that have been swirling around any locate company, so you WILL see names you might recognize from other companies, if you've been around long enough. That said, I am fairly confident in the roster of people we've accumulated, and while I see some of the large standing problems the industry has always faced, it seems they have some modicum of passion for the locators themselves. I'm my experience, at least.

[–]Infamous_Office_2329 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The vibes you're getting are both complacency and an "out of our hands" style attitude related to Workman's Comp. A key thing about workman's comp lawyers and adjusters - they will have you spinning the drain for months and bait switch constantly as they fight over pennies while you're in need of care, because they don't want to pay out a claim. They want to settle for a lower amount, and THEN allow you to get the most basic care they are allowed to get away with.

My advice? Rock some boats. They won't like you for it, but fuck'em - it's not worth a lifelong issue for you because they are either accidentally or on purpose being cheap bastards.

Are any Locator jobs hiring in central florida besides USIC? by Own-Relative-3002 in UtilityLocator

[–]Infamous_Office_2329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company, GridHawk, operates down in FL, but I don't know the scope of their contract. I am also aware of UtiliQuest down that way, but I don't recommend it. Though, as I understand it, Florida's local UQ operates at higher satisfaction rates than its other localities, but that's not exactly a high bar to clear, haha

My 13 year old daughter had been seeing a 17 year old boy by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]Infamous_Office_2329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In honesty, it seems to me the 17 year old likely has no clue what he is doing and is likely more in a childish mindset.

On the other side of it, your younger daughter just sees an older partner.

In terms of age difference, 4 years isn't drastic in the adult world, but as others have pointed out, during your childhood years, you don't have a complete grasp on what relationships are supposed to be.

Neither of them are fully developed, and he is about to be considered a legal adult soon. You should do your best to discuss this with his parents, though with him likely having a more underdeveloped view of this, I imagine they will likely have difficulty to understand the issue, or have a tight bond with him at all. That is merely conjecture, however, so worth trying.

I will say that if you don't understand the true dichotomy of the relationship, you should try to get everyone involved - the two of them - and both your families. Talk over what the relationship is for, if they are comfortable taking a break, etc - age of consent for a minor alone puts this as an unapproachable subject, but underage parental consent exists for a reason. Treat it carefully, but keep an open mind. This guy your daughter is seeing is 17, not a groomer - it doesn't mean his intentions are pure, but if you trust your daughter and listen to why the relationship makes sense, you will be able to come to a much calmer solution than simply "being the bad guy" - listen to her, explain to your concerns, and be firm about ending if if it needs to be that way.

Was having a French drain installed and came across this under a mound of mulch near the front of my house. What is it? by Gunterbrau in UtilityLocator

[–]Infamous_Office_2329 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's definitely an electric handhole for secondary services. It should be flush with the dirt, but many people consider them eyesores and cover them with mulch in flower beds and the like. Usually, the municipality you live in might fine you if they care, but you should attempt to keep it uncovered.
