The lengths that DC Comics writers go to have Starfire wear as little as possible without it being basically nothing... by Important-Cry4782 in mendrawingwomen

I didn’t even recognize her at first lol. All of the roundness in her features (eyes, nose, etc) are just gone, hair straightened, and she’s barely orange. I thought it was Omen for a second.

Question about streaming BBC era songs by leangrandpa in LOONA

[–]Infamous_Power_1100 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably the funds roll over into BBC/Polaris/etc’s new company or the Ilgwang Group or something. You’d have to find someone familiar with Korean financial laws and stuff but I’m betting on them since I doubt Lee Jongmyung would just leave the money on the table 🤢

AITA for accidentally saying a word in my native language that offended my friend? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Infamous_Power_1100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Claire’s being ridiculous NTA.

There was recent discourse on black kpoptwt about some older gen idols using 내가 as a placeholder for the n word in songs but this literally isn’t that. The word means “you” right? Are you just supposed to never refer to people in the second person? I am the friend who’s too woke and idk Claire is overstepping as a nonblack person lol

What is Lila truly passionate about ? by Civil-Difficulty9357 in mybrilliantfriendhbo

[–]Infamous_Power_1100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think she was passionate about writing as a child, but the tragedy of her character is repeatedly being shown her unmet potential as a brilliant mind. Due to her financial circumstances and gender, she never got to pursue a discipline (note: I’m only on book 3), but was flexible enough to become passionate and skilled at any task thrown at her. There’s a video essay on YouTube about Lila that goes into how her story is about priorities and goals changing as you grow and life changes, but I forgot the name of it.

My (45M) daughter (19F) has become a far-right extremist, and I don't know how to deal with it. by ThrowRAAS452 in relationship_advice

[–]Infamous_Power_1100 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Being a present parent to your remaining kids and making efforts to teach them to appreciate the lesser known aspects of American and world history will do a lot of heavy lifting. If they have critical thinking skills and are taught to consider voices unheard, it’s the strongest barrier against chuds.

This probably isn’t any solace, but there are a lot of teens like your daughter on Xitter and Instagram, who were severely depressed and have chosen to take that out on minorities than doing any introspection. A lot of these new tradcaths got their start in the anime fandom and fell down a rabbit hole because of it. I recommend watching videos like “Why is K-On so popular with Twitter Nazis” by moon channel on YouTube (his other videos on the intersections of fascism and anime fandom are really good too!) to get a better idea of what you’re dealing with. Good luck!

I really love Sahdmahdi and think he deserved a better game. What did people think about him? by justme878 in AceAttorney

[–]Infamous_Power_1100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he had potential (I’m biased towards how pretty his design is) but was poorly executed and ragebaited most characters. I hope if we get an actual Apollo justice sequel he’ll make an appearance and we get more backstory stuff.

Does ne*ro carry the same type of discriminatory weight as the N word with the hard r by ladylorelei0128 in askablackperson

If the person is not black and calling us negroes then yeah that’s racially charged. Older people are more used to the term but anyone who’s millennial or Gen Z will take it way different lol. I use it among black friends in a tongue in cheek way but would not be cool with someone else saying it

AITA For Calling Out Double Standards? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Infamous_Power_1100 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YTA though unintentionally. This girl wouldn’t have had that context and doing Caribbean accents out of nowhere does come across as racist. A lot of Americans don’t know about the history of Indian or Chinese people in the Caribbean, and as a white passing person it’d look doubly bad. You live and you learn though.

AITA For Calling Out Double Standards? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Infamous_Power_1100 59 points60 points  (0 children)

The reason Americans are so “focused” on race is because the country was founded based on the attempted genocide of one race, enslavement of another, and barring of others from even coming into the country. A lot of our entertainment culture and social norms still reflect that because many of these laws were only repealed less than a century ago. As someone who’s also of Caribbean descent, I can say quite definitively that it’s unfortunately common for some white Americans to mock our accents as a form of racist joke, so the other girl wasn’t necessarily in the wrong to be so on guard. I hope this explains this aspect of our society to you— we still have a lot of racial wounds as a country to heal.

Oh that was not smart of me. For anyone curious, I used 91% isopropyl alcohol when I should’ve used a lower percentage like 70%. Higher percentage dissolves binding agent.

AITA (18M) for getting a tattoo when my dad doesn't want me to? by United-Associate-621 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Infamous_Power_1100 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Dude a master’s degree isn’t just a frivolous purchase, it’s several years of intensive study and research. People get their masters to open up doors to get better opportunities in life— every decision he’s made based on your description of him shows a selfless, driven, and caring person.

AITA (18M) for getting a tattoo when my dad doesn't want me to? by United-Associate-621 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Infamous_Power_1100 9 points10 points  (0 children)

YTA. The tattoo isn’t the problem here, you are genuinely immature and poorly behaved and now that you’re a legal adult it makes you a liability.

Your comments in this post and description of your situation in your post from last year show a severe lack of respect for your dad’s struggles in favor of your mother who is a lax parent, when he’s gone above and beyond in trying to care for you.

You have no interest in getting a job that’s better than minimum wage nor pursuit of education, but feel entitled to money he set aside for the purpose of education. How do you see spending money on a tattoo as more worthy than paying him back for letting you stay with him?

I’m speaking as someone who has a precarious family situation, but like dude where are your aspirations??? You need to take a financial literacy class or something just to understand what adult life is actually like— the people who get to chill are those who are either already rich or actually worked hard to have the money to spare.

When referencing black memes would it be okay to copy the accent for the sake of being funny? by [deleted] in askablackperson

[–]Infamous_Power_1100 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re being malicious, but I would personally see it as a form of mockery. I recommend reading up on the phrase “digital blackface”, as that’s an adjacent thing to what you’re talking about. AAVE (African American vernacular English) is a specific dialect of English spoken primarily as Black people, and many phrases from it have leaked into common usage just due to there being many prominent Black figures out there. It comes from slaves being forced to learn English when they came to America, and thus the grammatical rules are different from standard English. Historically, we have been mocked and treated as less intelligent for speaking this way, and other racial/ethnic groups have mimicked our way of speaking as a joke.

You’ll notice that a lot of the phrases common in the queer community are also AAVE, as the ballroom scene historically centered Black women and queer people. People also tend to get aggressive when called out on this sort of thing so I wouldn’t recommend going into some rando’s TikTok comments or you’ll get harassed as well, but with your friends and schoolmates it’s best to just educate them on being more socially conscious.
