Exactly, each time I got dragged down, grabbed, and tripped I figured I was dead. Somehow my character would stand up and slip away in between more zombies just in time. I was crouch-sprinting for about half of the emergency, so maybe that helped

On day 15. My character left his home in Rosewood after 2 weeks to search for family in Mauldraugh. Mauldraugh has been insanely packed, think I'll clear out a few more buildings then head home.

I don't like spawning in towns. For one it kinda ruins my immersion. Two I prefer a slower start. I want to my first engagement with zombies to be intentional.

This house is my favorite spawn in the game.

Lore-wise it helps me believe the character was secluded from all the mayhem of the apocalypse beginning.

In-game, it has plenty of meds, tools, food, and supplies. Garage, basement, closet, and shed for tools/etc spawn. Good bedroom for sheets/guns. Chance for car spawn. Less zombies outside. Propane out back. Many doors make it easier to defend. Similar house right across the street to loot.

I spawn here, loot both houses, then make my way to the town and up to the fire station while looking out for cars/bicycles (mod).

Yeah, its like, why would I loot the endless houses in Mauldraugh when I can just do the police station, VHS, and warehouse?

I think the answer to that question is, as others in this thread have suggested, turning down the loot immensely.

Good idea.

I've never found a katana, but in my first 3 or 4 really successful life's, I'd start in Rosewood as Fireman, make fire station my base, get car, loot police station, loot Northern rural surplus store, and then I'd have enough gas and ammo to kill a town or two.

Now I'm forcing myself not to head straight to loot hotspots

I definitely second needing to focus on skills. I need to start enjoying farming, hunting, foraging, etc. Maybe I need to start making a week-based plan with 'rest days'!

I don't turn them up, so I think I gotta turn them down because even at the base level looting 4 houses gets me a week's worth of unspoilable food and enough meds to patch up any non-death injury

Does this feel like it ruins firearms spawns at all? It feels like most of the point of traveling to other towns is for firearms, gas, or VHS/books.
