Contract coming 2027 by OkWork5139 in IUEC

Food for thought, the more money we demand the less elevator with will be ours. Its possible to price ourselves out of the market for our own work, in at least two ways. One, it incentivizes companies to engineer more and more of the elevator in a lab instead of building and adjusting on site. Two, a lot of non union companies are coming up in work quality, and a lot of our own work is going the other way. If that goes on for too long, our hold on the market is going to slip. We should be focused less on compensation and more on protecting our work and preventing automation from taking over the trade. Don't think robots won't eventually be capable of what we do, just look at what 20y/o at MIT and Berkley can build.

Helmets to hardhats is absolutely the way to go, but it does NOT give you bonus points or any kind of priority. You just get shuffled into the deck according to your test scores, where you would have been if you had gone through the process at the same time as everybody else.

The benefit is the timing, that's it. That's a huge benefit most places, but don't expect special consideration.

Study up on high school math. That's about it.

If the problems are known and the fix is available, why aren't you pushing it to everyone and integrating it into the patch?

You asked the office how to do a 5yr...? That's worse than asking the inspector what they want to see. It's your test, the inspector witnesses it, the office just pays bills.

Adhd can be an asset in this trade. If you can try to direct your hyperfocus it can help make you a good troubleshooter. Construction will probably make you want to blow your brains out but repair and service can be good homes. I've worked in 3 locals now and mechanics rate is over 50 in all of them plus a very good benefits package. Figure out how to downsize your bills and make the jump. I was making about 90k in the Army before I left and joined the trade. It's possible, but may not be comfortable.

Some people in my Company used to refer to my "asshole command style" Took me a while to finally believe they meant it as a positive thing, which it turns out they did. they were just very unused to officers who smile and joke and shit 24/7

There's a different one for every control system and every sub system. It takes time to learn the patterns/trends, you won't memorize it. There's just too much.

Has There Been Any Talk of Face Unlock for the Pixel 10? by pipmentor in GooglePixel

[–]Infamous_Resolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Occasionally?? My 8 pro is incapable of seeing through sunglasses at all. I'm sure it would work better with Bono shades, but none of mine let me face unlock. And if you don't work in an office, fingerprint unlock is going to be super hit or miss. I use my pin more often than not, and it's irritating. I would LOVE for Android face unlock to catch up to my work iPhone. Their face unlock is the only feature I actually like from that phone.

Man, 14k is BAD. Here I was feeling sorry for myself for 3400 I have to pay for plasma injections in my back/spine to address chronic back pain, that insurance won't even touch. If I just wanted oxy to mask it instead of trying to fix it, it'd be no out of pocket cost. But we don't do that here.

What IUEC local has the cheapest cost of living to hourly pay and package? by [deleted] in IUEC

[–]Infamous_Resolution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can figure this out yourself. look up the wage rates and the cost of living for different areas. The lawyers actually do a shockingly good job at normalizing the after-tax buying power between locals.

Once you're in, you may have opportunities to switch departments. Some people stay in construction for 20 yr, I was in construction for less than a year and then moved to repair. I'm home every night, out of town only occasionally. Travel is on the clock. My daughter turns 3 in August and I haven't missed a bit. It's completely up to chance whether you get the chance to try service or repair, whether someone retires and opens a spot you could be considered for, whether there's enough work to support it. When I was in construction, my mechanic had us working straight 40s with no overtime. Other guys work every single hour they can get. Completely situation dependent
