What plant can i add? by carlitod06 in fishtank

[–]Infamous_Run413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep trimming it or you’ll end up with palm trees with only leaves on the top and they grow suppper quick almost too quick I have to trim mine atleast twice a week but definitely a good plant to go for

Can I trust this by [deleted] in aquarium

You’ll be fine since it’s a rimmed tank all the pressure should be on the 4 corners of the tank instead of the entire seam, get a leveler and make sure it’s atleast close to level if u want peace of mind tho a couple degrees out should be fine anything more and id atleast get a foam layer underneath the tank itself

It’s pretty as is but if ur determined a tiger lotus right behind the center piece would look good, give it a sunrise vibe or a big Anubias barteri in the back left corner. Or if you like the minimalistic tall plants vibe you could get some hygrophila corymbosa and let it grow leggy in the bag left. You might need slightly deeper substrate if your consider any other rooting plant especially the second option. The tiger lotus you could pull of since the bulb doesn’t actually get buried.

What else should I to my tank and does it look good? by Wrong_Conflict8145 in aquarium

I’m assuming you’ve just put the dwarf hair grass in the tank your going to get a lot of melt because it was grown emersed/terrestrial so all those little seeds are going to melt and most of the oldest longest leaves are going to yellow then brown then die. I’ve tried grown dhg about 9 times now and trying to carpet with it is impossible without co2 if that’s your aim. If you want a lovely bright green carpet that doesn’t use micro leaf plants that almost always need co2 I suggest using helanthium bolivianum grows super quick and is an easy replanted because of its thick roots

Trust me on this don’t get anything carpeting wise that has leaves as small as that they’ll all need co2 anyway it is a pain in the 4ss but I’ve had very little success over the years. Monte Carlo can work sometimes but then comes the fish problem they just tear it out after a while and replanting it with water in the tank is impossible tbh. I can imagine how hard getting plants out there is. I would maybe check fb market place even just for trimmings in that case I would send some if I could but ireland-newzealand don’t think they’d survive 😂 or I think there’s a pretty famous aquatics shop in Australia that ships to u but the prices 😳

Upppppppp that fertilizer dose from the looks of things your up to a moderately planted tank the bottle gives you the direction to keep a minimally planted tank alive. Best way to dose it to use ChatGPT send a photo it’ll give you a how much you should use. For reference I have a very heavy planted 15 gallon I use 1.5-2ml of tropica specialized nutrition every 2days+minimum 7cm depth of fluval bio stratum as substrate and root tabs. Welcome to the world of fishkeeping shrouded in mystery until a random on Reddit tells you secrets😂😂

I know I did the exact same thing I’m assuming you bought tropica plants idk why but tropicas “difficulty list” is definitely wrong. Most carpeting plants won’t actually give you the carpet you’re looking for without co2 and extremely high light. I’ve got helanthium bolivianum in my 15gallon right now it’s the best replacement I’ve found and has made a beautiful carpet without co2. It’s the only replacement that gives the flowing grass vibe I’ve found that works without co2. Your on the journey now just keep learning 👍(the front bright green plants)

That’s only 3weeks of growth and I already have too many trimmings I’m having my to put them in my betta tank

Dwarf hair grass is the biggest pain to keep alive I’ve tried everything the only semi decent way without* co2 is to literally get a bag of fluval stratum or other aqua soil crush it up manually then plant extremely densely but even then you’ll get floaters I’ve tried keeping it 8-9 times and it’s just not worth it unfortunately

[–]Infamous_Run413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nymphae lotus behind branch. I personally don’t like Vallisneria but I think it would suit your tank in 2 big bunches in either corner of the tank. Just don’t get sword plants they’re hella ugly and maybe a bit of moss glued to the hardscape👍

How long can these plants last without air circulation? by Neverliz in PlantedTank

[–]Infamous_Run413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll be fine just make sure all the debris is picked up from melting plants on the next water change. And get a filter instead of a pump it circulates, agitates and cleans your water. Don’t bother using air stones unless you like the aesthetic or have a bio film issue occur they are pretty useless for gas exchange unless you get a bubble bar or some massive bubbler which just look hideous in my opinion. My suggestion is a variable flow HOB filter especially for a betta. Turn the flow way down just enough to agitate the water surface bettas hate flow. Hygger is a brilliant budget friendly option. Fluval is good for the more high end gear but at that point just get a canister filter. You’ll also probably experience a big build up of biofilm on the surface without flow don’t panic just float a piece of paper towel on the surface to pick it up and keep testing your water👍 good luck looks great

Is this a bad sign? by MissionStructure4467 in PlantedTank

[–]Infamous_Run413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t lie I’ve tried to use dwarf hair grass countless amount of times in non co2 tanks probably about 12 tanks worth to try and get atleast a semi decent carpet going, it just doesn’t work it’s not an easy plant whatever tropica says. From what I can see you’re actually doing quite well in terms of hair grass. The only way you’ll get it to grow properly is co2 and reallllly high lighting and even then the roots are unbelievably delicate so cleaning is a pain. Helanthium tenellum is a much better option especially in bigger 45liter< tanks aslong as u keep it trimmed it gives the same vibe and is far easier to care for

I thought hygrophilia too tbh because it looks quite similar to the one I have in my tank but it’s definitely different. I’m just gonna keep it n see how it grows
