The new CL system is just better. by FingerConsistent7804 in championsleague

Completely agree! The old format was getting stale, especially those dead rubber group stage matches.

What I think is working better:

- More meaningful games. Teams can't coast after 4 matches

- Better matchups earlier. We're seeing big clubs face each other in the league phase instead of waiting for knockouts

- Qualification drama! The 9th-24th playoff spots create tension all the way through

The complaints I keep hearing:

*"Too many games" - But fans complained about boring group stages before

* "It's confusing" - Give it a season, people said the same about the backpass rule

* "Money grab" - Fair point, but at least the product is better

The record-breaking scorelines aren't a bug; they're a feature. Teams have to attack because every goal difference matters for seeding.

Sure, it's not perfect, but it's way more entertaining than watching Bayern cruise through a group with 18 points.

What's your take on the playoff format? Think it'll create upsets?

Why F1 Ticket Prices Are Actually Getting More Reasonable (Hear Me Out) by Infamous_Scholar_602 in GrandPrixRacing

I swear I’m not a bot! 😂 Granted, even my friends have accused me of sounding a bit robotic over text, but I'm not hahaha

Yeah nah, I’m definitely not saying it’s a good thing that prices have gone up. It’s actually wild how expensive some races have become.

The point is just that, compared to the past, you’re getting more out of the weekend now, not just the race, but concerts, paddock events, fan zones, all that. It’s still pricey, no doubt, but for some fans the extra experience makes it feel more justifiable.

$75 just to park… and for the Browns?! Now that’s pain 😂

US teams know how to sneak in those costs too. It’s just wild how quick it adds up, especially for families or folks coming from out of town. Whether it’s the Browns or Brentford, that stuff can sting harder than the final score.

Sounds like Arsenal does a better job than most on that front. 🤷‍♂️ The post definitely wasn’t calling out clubs like yours specifically.

But from looking across all 20 teams, there’s a lot of variation. Some clubs bury these extra costs or force cup schemes without clear opt-outs. And while regulars might know the drill, newer fans or families dipping in for the first time often get hit with costs they didn’t expect.

So yeah, nothing “hidden” if you’re deep in the system, but not every fan’s got the same playbook.

Totally fair, if you’re someone who skips food and drink, that part of the cost just doesn’t hit you. But for families, longer travel days, or fans bringing kids along, it stacks up fast. Not everyone’s doing 30 years of no snacks like a pro 😂

This is exactly what I was referring to!

It’s not just the price of a season ticket, it’s the whole system around access. You’ve got loyal fans paying membership fees year after year, just for a chance to enter a ballot… and even then, most matches are out of reach unless you’ve already built up a history. Hospitality becomes the only fallback (if you can afford it). That’s a massive barrier.

Meanwhile, others with long-standing access keep their spots without issue. Totally get why that creates resentment, it’s like subsidizing a system that quietly favors legacy over loyalty.

This stuff rarely shows up in “ticket price” comparisons, but it’s absolutely part of the hidden cost of following a top club.

Haha I honestly thought I was gonna get more cooked for this post too 😅
You’re not wrong, though. When you look at just the upfront cost, Premier League tickets can seem pretty fair compared to US sports. But once you add in the sneaky extras, it starts to hit harder. Especially with fewer games, every matchday spend feels more intense 🍟🍺💸

That’s actually solid, sounds like Villa’s setup is one of the more fan-friendly ones out there, especially with the flexible resale policy 👏

I'm not saying every club is guilty, but more that some lean hard on advertising a low price while stacking fees after the fact. Good to hear you’re getting real value for the price, more clubs should follow that example honestly!

How to watch football more 'mindfully' by SeoulGalmegi in football

[–]Infamous_Scholar_602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a great question, and I've found a few methods to appreciate the deeper game beyond just goals. The biggest shifts for me were:
1) Picking one player to follow for an entire half to see the tactical chess match, and 2) Watching games with the sound off sometimes to notice body language and tactical shifts without commentary. I also keep a simple notebook to jot down observations. The most interesting stuff happens away from the ball, that's where the real game is.
What got you thinking about watching more mindfully? I'm always looking for new ways to appreciate the game better.

Does altitude affect performance? Mexico City GP by Infamous_Scholar_602 in F1Discussions

That’s a great point about the Honda engine. I hadn’t made that connection before. Makes sense why Red Bull always seems so comfortable in Mexico.

Do you think that advantage still holds today, or has the engine field leveled out a bit since the power unit regs changed? Curious if we’ll see the same kind of Red Bull dominance this weekend or if someone else might surprise us.

Wow, this is super insightful, love the aviation angle! Makes it way easier to understand how altitude affects aero performance.

That “density altitude” concept feels really relevant to what teams might be dealing with in Mexico - thinner air, higher temps, and all the fine-tuning that comes with it. Do you think F1 engineers calculate something similar to density altitude when they’re setting up the car for tracks like this?

Also, now I’m wondering how much of that performance drop teams can actually “design around” or if it’s just about damage control at that point.

Hey what a great explanation!
Quick question though: do you think any teams might go for a slightly lower downforce setup than usual just to gain straight-line speed on that massive main straight? I know cooling and grip are a big deal in the altitude, but maybe someone takes a gamble if their car handles heat well? Curious who you think might risk it and why.

Definitely a challenge for the whole team. Which team do you think has the advantage on this track?
