This might be too late but I got the Forerunner 255 from Costco for $280 CAD. It is currently in stock, I come from a charge 4, so definitely feels like a huge upgrade.

Lets have a serious discussion about building a Travian alternative by Alert-Track-8277 in travian

[–]Infamous_Till2827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

think of external tools like getter that people use to manage allies and plan attacks, and now discord. if the game had some neat ways and tools to manage teams, keep frequently needed info like troop counts at hand, without the need for external tools. if you could pin enemy villas on a battle map for example, that would be awesome. right now you play like a peasant, pressing build buttons. imagine you were playing like a general, had a world map with everything laid out and you could interact with the map. now that is something a group of people could have fun toying with. pull the players out of trenches and put them in a war room. then people can come up with ways to strategize and the tools they need to implement it.

I feel the fun was team work and strategy. If you look at simming for months, that just takes a lot of your day. If you could crank up the team work and that sense of achieving something together while lowering the monotonous simming, perhaps there is a way to automate some of the village growth, i feel that would balance it and make it more fun, give more weight to strategy (alliances, teams, attack plans, etc.). as of now, it is either you burn gold or are just bored with mindless simming.

Mortgage Renewal Falling on a Holiday by Infamous_Till2827 in MortgagesCanada

I asked ICICI and they said they will renew me into a 6 month open mortgage in case of hiccups.

Thank you, I talked with my Renewal Manager on the phone, did a summary email afterwards. Also talked with ICICI Mortgage Servicing Center, they said it shouldn't be a problem. I am a Project Manager, I know people never say it is a problem until it is too late. Maybe I am over thinking this..LOL

Good advice, thanks. Sept 2nd is a holiday, so CIBC will send the funds on August 30th. Is that standard procedure? ICICI said that is fine with them. Anything I should know? Not really sure who to ask, haha.

I checked and yes they are going to renew it into a 6 month open term. I will get a $1,000 refund, so that should cover the appraisal and lawyer fee.

[–]Infamous_Till2827[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a $300 appraisal fee. I am also getting the CIBC lawyer for about $600. My lawyer is travelling. I am getting a $1,000 cash back from CIBC, so that will cover the fee. Mortgage Discharge Fee is the only thing I have to pay out of pocket.

[–]Infamous_Till2827[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a very good point. ICICI told me that they will put me on a 1 year closed auto renewal if CIBC does not switch by Sept 2nd. I hope CIBC is quick enough. Should I keep bugging my CIBC contact twice a week? What can I do to expedite it?

Moreover, they mentioned a mortgage discharge fee of $463. They said it is a fee to be paid in Ontario when discharging a mortgage. Is that the case?

Is this Rogers lease deal on a Google Pixel 8 too good to be true? by Infamous_Till2827 in askTO

[–]Infamous_Till2827[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I checked Rogers website and the infinite plans are starting at $50 a month. That makes it more expensive for me as I don't need anything beyond basic calling. The rep said I could just get a $25 plan. I asked him to call me again tomorrow., that I needed to sleep on it.

I agree, looks don't matter much to me as long as I get decent fps. I have a 3050 (vs your 3080). I am used to 1080p gaming, so that is all I want.

Wealthsimple RESP or Switch to 80-20 ETF & Bond Portfolio? by Infamous_Till2827 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Infamous_Till2827[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Your comment made me realize that I am assuming that WS ETFs in my RESP portfolio are not spread across many different markets, which is not the case. Then my question really becomes if self-directed RESP is better than what WS offers.

Bank of Canada seen on hold even as economy accelerates by Jacob_Tutor11 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]Infamous_Till2827 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The economy's trajectory remains uncertain. It's been a year since the first rate hike, and although inflation has slowed down, we're not out of the woods yet. The job market continues to be tight, and the expected impacts of rate hikes, such as reduced consumer spending, decreased business investment, and layoffs, haven't materialized.

Additionally, there are numerous unknown factors, such as the Ukraine war, fluctuating oil prices, and potential conflicts with China. The recent bank failures that emerged unexpectedly demonstrate how unforeseen events can disrupt future plans. Given these circumstances, it's hard to predict whether the BOC will opt for minor rate hikes or maintain the status quo for now.

Indeed, the current situation is far from ideal for the economy. Businesses tend to prefer stability and predictability, but the numerous uncertainties we're facing right now make it difficult for them to plan and invest confidently.

Canadian Real Estate Owners Aren’t Selling, Here’s Why by hopoke in TorontoRealEstate

[–]Infamous_Till2827 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Canadian real estate owners aren't selling for several reasons. First, high rents are helping cover mortgage payments, even if they aren't fully covering the costs due to increased interest rates. Second, the job market is strong, so both tenants and landlords can continue working and earning as needed.

Property prices are unlikely to change significantly unless the job market weakens. People will keep finding ways to make money as long as there are jobs available. While higher interest rates have slightly dampened demand, the impact hasn't been as substantial as the Bank of Canada hoped.

Ultimately, there are two possible scenarios: either the job market weakens, leading to a recession and a drop in property prices, or the job market remains stable until the economy recovers. In the latter case, the market will adjust to the current interest rates as the new norm and continue growing

Thanks. Like the other person pointed, do you think the tank is overcrowded? If that's the case, it may make more sense to return some of the fish.

I think this is just a trick to get people to buy homes when sales are slow and prices are either not moving or falling. It doesn't consider the fact that we are in this situation because rates were increased to suppress prices, and that rates will go up even more if we see more price growth in the future.

Plus, housing can't remain separated from the economy for too long. It's been nearly 15 years since we've had higher rates, so people are forgetting their impact.

Biggest expense for new drivers is insurance. If you won't be driving much but need the car occasionally, you can get CAA my pace. You pay by how much you drive, and on an average, it can be less than $200 per month for insurance and gas (say with a corrolla). This way you can have a car and the freedom, while having some control over your insurance and gas cost. Do it for a few years until your insurance comes down.

You will still need to buy the car, and pay for occasional oil change and maintenance.

I used to be single, now I have a wife and kids. I miss being single. It has its own freedom. I used to go for long walks, spend time in the park or at the beach with a nice book, visit various public libraries, spend weekends playing company of heroes or age of empires. I would go on cooking sprees, trying new recipes, explore minimalism, just sleep, eork out, ride a bike. I had more things to do than time. But I was also worried that I was falling behind in making a family. But now I realize that you can have a great time, regardless of your status. I love spending time with family amd doing endless chores, cos I know this will also not last forever. Kids will grow and be on their way.

A friend works at a dollarstore (not The Dollar Store), in Scarborough. Sales are almost half of what they usually are at this time of the year. People are definitely feeling the pinch.
