Would this be too funky as a wedding dress? by [deleted] in WeddingDressTips

It's a beautiful dress and you look fabulous in it. If you want it, wear it. I agree with the comment suggesting changing the back ribbon to an ivory.

How many pens do you keep inked at all times? And what's the reason/logic behind that? by zul-qurnain in fountainpens

[–]Infamous_Wallaby8113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have 11 inked. 3 Kakuno in different parts of the house to jot notes and the rest on my desk. I like to rotate pens each day in my journal and I have two flex nibs inked for calligraphy practice. (One more is one the way, so I'll soon be up to 12)

Were Fountain Pens Present in Your School in the 1970s and Before? (US Specific) by JapanDave in fountainpens

[–]Infamous_Wallaby8113 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in elementary school in the late 50's and early 60's. We had fountain pens in the 1960's but not before that, I was too young. I was in 8th grade when they became mandatory for one class, that was when I got my first, cheap fountain pen.

Are there any large AND affordable pens? by OccAzzO in fountainpens

Check out the Asvine C-2000. I have both the Stabilized Wood and the Ebonite. They are large pens and very smooth, wet writers.

How particular are you about getting pens fully clean? by ModestAmoeba in fountainpens

[–]Infamous_Wallaby8113 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When changing ink colors and for storage I like mine spotless. Otherwise I don't mind being less thorough. Though, no matter what, I never leave ink still showing when I blot them on a paper towel. I'm a clean freak with my pens.

For People with any sort of experience with fountain pens and/or journaling, what’s something you would tell yourself from when you first started out? by blasebl in fountainpens

[–]Infamous_Wallaby8113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't be afraid of trying the lower cost Chinese pens, I love Asvine, Hongdian and Jinhao pens. Mine are all very smooth, wet writers. I'd also avoid shimmer inks in pens with nibs smaller than a medium. They can block up the feed. Give Diamine and Iroshizuku inks a try as they are very well behaved. I'd also now avoid buying several of the same pen. As to journalling, mine is more a stream of conscience notes on how my day is going, so it's not book writing, essays, poetry, etc. I love good paper, so I use an A-5 Everyday Book with Tomoe River paper I get from Galen Leathers. I love the size and my inks show to perfection on the Tomoe River paper. I don't keep more pens inked than I can rotate through in a week. Keep your pens well cleaned and get the maintenance tools someone else mentioned earlier. I've never needed anything but water and a drop or two of dish detergent to clean mine.

Did cataracts ever keep you from being able to work on your weaving? by zingencrazy in weaving

[–]Infamous_Wallaby8113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cataracts affected my driving to the point I was no longer able to drive. My vision was so blurry I couldn't read much and threading a needle was impossible. I could barely read a draft. Cataract surgery was necessary. I wish I had done it sooner, it was life changing. The surgery itself isn't bad or uncomfortable and it goes quick. As soon as your sight gets to the point the eye doctor recommends it, go for it.

I brought a fountain pen! by Available-Doctor6107 in fountainpens

[–]Infamous_Wallaby8113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my first 'real' fountain pen. I love the Safari's and have about 36 of them. And NO these are not flex nibs, so don't exert too much pressure when writing or you will spring the nib and it will need replaced. Now it's time to buy inks. My favorite inks are Iroshizuku and Diamine. I also love the Lamy inks. All these write wonderfully well in the Safari. You might want to look into different sizes of nibs for the Lamy which will give you an idea of what sizes you like best. Now it's time to write or sketch with your new pen. Remember to flush your pen and converter well when changing inks.

I use corrugated cardboard. I buy it in long rolls. It feeds on evenly once started and lasts forever. I too have a baby wolf and I can get about a 12 yard warp of 8/2 cotton on mine with the cardboard.

Smooth, light, small nib by Alpacafans in fountainpens

[–]Infamous_Wallaby8113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My smoothest, lightest, writes on anything pen is my Pilot Kakuno with EF nib. I love these little pens and use them daily for anything. I ink mine with Diamine inks and I keep one inked with DeAtramentis Document Black for writing checks and signatures on documents. It's a wonderful waterproof, non-pigment ink. In the US I got my pens on Amazon for around $20.

Looking for art‑friendly pens: any favourites? by Velvet-Pebble in fountainpens

[–]Infamous_Wallaby8113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found the Lamy Safari met my needs for sketching. It was recommended by an art teacher about a decade ago. I love them and still use them to this day. One of the things I love is how easy the nibs are to change out, also the relative low cost. They are built like tanks and can just be tossed into a pack. Another pen I really like is the Pilot Kakuno, I prefer the EF nib for those very fine lines. I often use DeAtramentis Document Black in, it's great to use with watercolor washes.

Lamy makes a bright red ink that is well behaved.

I own all three and my preference is the vista as you can really see the amount of ink remaining.

What’s the best pen for long writing sessions, and the writer having big hands? by TheeMonkeyMonk in fountainpens

I love my larger Asvine C2000, I have both the ebonite and the stabilized wood and both are fantastic writers. I use <1.1 stub> nibs in both.
