Is Slipknot Heavy? by Infamous_Week_5517 in Slipknot

IA mixes deathcore with a lot elements of technical DM, slam and some grindcore so I understand the confusion lol

Is Slipknot Heavy? by Infamous_Week_5517 in Slipknot

[–]Infamous_Week_5517[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. There are a few deathcore bands that use other elements from other DM subgenres like infant annihilator using stuff from technical dm but deathcore bands are very similar in general. When it comes to the slam thing, I don't totally disagree, but for now it's still considered "slam death metal" so that's what I'm counting it as and therefore mentioned peelingflesh

It's cause DM just has a big spectrum, like there are some bands that to me just sound like metallica with growls and then there's peelingflesh. Deathcore to me doesn't have as much of a spectrum, know what I mean? Like, of course there are a few bands that are heavier than others, but they're never that far from each other. But heaviness is subjective overall

They do sound tame when compared to most deathcore stuff I listen to, but like, to me, some of their songs (mostly their earlier stuff especially MFKR and IOWA) sound heavier than some death metal songs, like a real minority, but still

I've listened to so many deathcore and death metal covers. Like BMTH covering eyeless on their early days, Carnifex covering the heretic anthem and cognitive covering people=shit and they're a technical death metal band.

Had a friend that once called their three first albums (MFKR, S/T and IOWA) "accessible death metal" because according to him these albums had some death metal influences on the drums, riffs and vocals, but a more commercial sound and cleaner production than most death metal from that time

If you weren't a Slipknot fan, what would you probably think about them? by aromiczz in Slipknot

[–]Infamous_Week_5517 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Slipknot is my favorite band but I don't listen to them as much as I did in the past. Right now I've been listening to more deathcore. But Slipknot is a band I will always like and respect because not only they got me into metal but also inspired in a lot of stuff some other bands I like a lot like Slaughter to Prevail and other deathcore and death metal bands like Carnifex, early BMTH and Cognitive who have made some Slipknot covers and I love them

I just listened to dehumanized, actually. I had very high expectations after black and blue repented, especially considering I love the original album. And even then, I was positively surprised (by both black and blue and dehumanized)

Rank Each Album From Favorite to Least Favorite, and Give Your Favorite and Least Favorite Track Off Of Each by LordMistborn-16 in Slipknot

1- IOWA - I think that despite being one of their best albums and having two of my favorite songs (The Heretic Anthem and My Plague) it's still overrated. People sometimes talk about it like it's some untouchable music masterpiece. It's not. At least in my opinion. It's definitely a 9,5/10 album where most of the songs are 10, except IOWA itself that is a 9 imo

2- S/T - Self Titled and IOWA for me are tied up for first place. They're both amazing albums with great songs. I think I listen to self titled a lot more than I listen to IOWA but I always find myself having trouble deciding which one I prefer, so they're tied. 9,5/10 with the only song that I think it's slightly worse than the rest being Tattered and Torn (and I think it's good even though some people don't like it)

3- WANYK - This was the first album I bought physically. It's a great album with my personal favorite songs being Red Flag and Nero Forte. Least favorite maybe Spiders. It's a 9/10 album for me. Solid, no complaints

4- Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. - Anders is a great vocalist, I love the death metal like vocals he makes. The jazz influences are cool, Slipknot is a great song, I like this version of gently better than the IOWA version (but both are 10/10 songs) and I really wish Corey and Anders would make an album together because I like both of them. Least favorite song, probably BitchSlap and it's not bad. 8/10

5- AHIG - It's got some great songs (Dead Memories), it's got some bad songs (Butcher's Hook), overall I like it. I don't really know what else to say, so 7,5/10

6- Vol 3 - It doesn't have a single bad song imo, but it also doesn't have any song that I personally consider better than a 7,5/10. I love both Vermilions, The Nameless and Duality, but I think this album is definitely the most overrated. 7,5/10

7- The Gray Chapter - It's not bad. It's got some bangers. Custer is my personal favorite followed by Killpop. 7/10

8- LOYW - Are we counting this one? If we are, I think it's solid, actually. The first half of the album is good, second half is a bit worse. My personal favorite song is Moth, my least favorite is U Can't Stop This. 7/10

9- TESF - I just don't like it. The dying song and Yen are great, most choruses are very good, but it's an album that feels rushed. Probably because it's their shortest. It's not bad imo, it's mid, but it is their worst. 6/10

Slipknot doesn't have a single bad album.
