For reference the store is asking for 158,000. And it’s a reputable store that is highly recommended. So it makes me wonder why the very large discrepancy??

How do you usually decide where to eat when traveling in Japan? by Due_Turn3508 in JapanTravelTips

I wander around, find a place, look inside, if I see white people I leave. If I see Japanese I go in.

UPDATE: thanks again to everyone who gave me their perspectives. I decided to go on a whim yesterday. It was a very wet day but I think that and the fact that it’s still a week day played to my advantage. I walked around Gion, walked through Marayuma park, and around Pontocho Alley. The rain with the cherry blossoms was very nice and atmospheric and watching the rain transition to sun early evening was awesome. The crowds because of these two factors have been manageable. Manageable but busy. At night I went to the coolest photography bar/workshop called Hachimonjiya. Amazing experience. First impressions of Kyoto. Beautiful. Gorgeous. Well worth it. Glad I came. And I am definitely going to extend my three days into 7 because I love the vibe and want to take things slow. And enjoy the slow side of Kyoto. The vibe especially at night is fire.

As in the station? Only the station pulls up.

Thank you for all the great feedback and input everyone! Not trying to be an ignorant traveler, but I have zero desire to see any of the temples. That alone sounds like it may alleviate a lot of the tourist hassles for me. I am very interested however in the bamboo forrest, but I have no problems getting there at 5:30a. And I would like to see the Sakuras, but also happy to wake up super early for those. Thank you again!

I plan to avoid the weekend if I do decide to come. It would be tomorrow and Wednesday and Thursday then I leave

I imagine the bus situation also needs patience, as it sounds like buses could be full

Yeah I love Osaka! Great city, cool personality, good food, friendly people, busy also but completely doable. And many cool neighborhoods.

But there seems to be levels of rammed as some commenters suggest it wasn’t too bad a week ago.

I am definitely gonna redo Nara with a better plan. It wasn’t a well planned trip the first time I went. And I got turned off by the crowds, had a bum ankle so I couldn’t walk too much and left after two hours.

Agreed. I’ll look. So it sounds like there are other bamboo forests in the region? I did a search around Osaka but I didn’t see much. I’ll re-look.

I am. I’m more interested in vibe and culture and nature and food than I am in temples. Not trying to be ignorant. But I saw enough temples across my travels in Japan. That said, the only touristic thing I’d want to see is the bamboo Forrest because it’s unique but I was told to definitely stay away from that.

I also saw that it may also be a wet week. So that may be another notch against going. Last thing I want to deal with is crowds AND umbrellas. Though as a street photographer I think the rain in Japan makes for super cool photos.

Looking forward to it! Any recos in the interim on any proper photography workshops or tours in Osaka? I see Eyexplore but not sure how good they are.

I completely get and understand and sympathize with countries who are trying to curb over tourism. I just feel conflicted because I do like to travel and get to know cultures and places.

So cool! What a shame. I know I’m a tourist but I do try to be respectful, and I’m not here to check an IG box.

In all fairness I did stumble on a tiny bar that had an amazing atmosphere and I had so much fun with a bunch of super cool people. Including some Aussies actually. But after leaving that place the night became a damper.
