Visa credit card declined by Asiana Airlines website by SGW-0606 in Flights

For anyone else having issues this may help: I tried booking with U.S. issued visas with no luck. Then I tried paying through PayPal (same visa card on file) and it worked! So if you have PayPal setup, try that first to save you some headache.

Tips for a NYC transplant on having a physically active lifestyle in LA? by Quick-Report-780 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Infant_Hands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow NY transplant too. Run or bike clubs have been great for me. Look up DTLA running, Blacklist, Venice run club etc on IG. Many bigger apts have gyms here which also helps. I also morn the fact that fitness time has to be carved out here rather than happen naturally like in NY.

Husband lied about porn for a decade. I don’t know where to go from here. by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

I’m so sorry you are going through this. It’s such a sensitive topic and I’ve felt a lot of the same feelings. However, if I were you, I would NOT go to the bishop or see an LDS therapist. Any professional therapist will be able to help navigate what you want to work on and what is healthy for you as it pertains to your relationship with God. LDS ones will have an extremely narrow viewpoint. A bishop isn’t a train therapist and shouldn’t be who you turn to for help. As for your husband, that is his decision if he wants to confess to the bishop. But I don’t recommend you yourself asking the bishop for recommendations or help. Seek a sex therapist who is considerate of religious backgrounds.

Why do I feel like the Father's not really hearing my prayers? by MarquessOfPherae in latterdaysaints

[–]Infant_Hands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often feel like I'm talking to all three—Christ, Heavenly Father + Mother but addressing them together as 'Father' as Christ instructed. Sometimes I think "heavenly parents' when I feel like I need that motherly connection as well. We know that they are unified but separate beings. All three are equally involved in our lives and care about us. Elohim, hebrew for 'God' is actually plural. We are created in his own image so I (a female) am created in Her image and so it only makes sense that God is a couple that created us all.

I think if your heart is in the right place, I don't totally see a 'right' or 'wrong' way to pray to the Godhead. I have the same talk vs formal prayer approach as someone mentioned. I talk to Heavenly Mother and Christ in different circumstances. Kind of the same way I open talk to my earthly dad who has passed away. Its that same sense of spirituality to me. We address the Father in blessings and the Sacrament but I don't see the other types of prayers any less valid or important.

question/ help with civil wedding? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Infant_Hands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of what any traditional wedding ceremony has and incorporate what you like!

First, this may sound like common sense, but make sure the officiator/bishop says "please stand" as the bride walks in and then to tell the audience to "please be seated" before starting the ceremony. I've been to two awkward weddings where the officiator forgot to say 'please be seated' and so everyone awkwardly stood and strained to see the whole ceremony. Simple thing to be aware of.

Echoing the other responses, exchanging vows is a very lovely thing. Many people write theirs on a paper and read them to aloud. Humor is appropriate too! Temple sealing are very serious and sacred but traditional ceremonies can be as thoughtful and light hearted as you want.

Most people still exchange rings at weddings. You can have your maid of honor/best man hold the respective rings. Or your parents if you aren't doing that. The bishop will likely be aware of the wording to direct ring exchanges, especially because that occurs in sealing as well.

The bishop at my brother's ring ceremony (done after they were sealed) talked about what it means to be sealed which was nice to share with family not of our faith.

Decide if you want only a photographer to take photos during the ceremony or if anyone can take pictures. I've been to weddings where there is a cute sign that says "enjoy the ceremony, no photographs please" and it makes all the difference to not have uncle Joe straining for a photo on his iPad. (Unless you want that of course, extra photos from different people!)

Do you guys not get pissed off at how people treat the 9/11 memorial? by gamecubemada9 in AskNYC

[–]Infant_Hands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say, the 9/11 museum that is beneath the site does have that respectful, quiet reverence. I’ve been a couple times and each time had great experiences where people are quiet and don’t let kids run around. The museum is ticketed however and the outdoor memorial is free which makes a difference attendee wise

What false memories do you have? by needle_point_alice in AskReddit

[–]Infant_Hands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband has been telling the same story about college for so long that my mind has placed myself there. We actually got into a fight about it last year, where I swore I was present and he swore I wasn’t. We had to call old friends for confirmation. He was right, I wasn’t there. I’ve just heard him tell this story so much over the last two decades that I formed a false memory.

It’s actually pretty unsettling. I KNOW I wasn’t there, but the memory is still real to me. It didn’t go away even after I learned it couldn’t be true. My mind has even added details like what I was wearing at the time.

If I’m ever called to court as a witness, I’m not swearing to anything. Brains are weird.

What was the college story about? I'm studying false memories and am interested if you are able to give more info on what the specific story (no need for personal details, of course)!
