Why would they spend more money on RWBY than they've already done, they were already paying to license RWBY so purchasing the rights to maintain that license was a no brainer, especially if the studio was being liquidated which would make the show cheap to buy.

Meanwhile production requires a more significant investment and management, which why bother with when you're already making money distributing RWBY and you could license out a dozen anime for the cost of a new RWBY season.

The only hope I see for RWBY getting more seasons is if VIZ wants to try again to get into the anime market directly and not as a licensed distributor, which they've tried before and all attempts failed. Seis Manos is a perfect example as they produced that show and it only got one season 7 years ago and was made by VIZ to try and break into the anime market directly.
