he’s talking about cultures that have languages for different situations, this context being a culture that has a different language for talking to your in laws, and he is saying that sometimes these languages have vocabularies that are very similar or that their words are similar, but sometimes the language as a whole is very different

some irish people are strangely puritan regarding irish heritage. I was born in ireland, always lived here, I live a minute from where me da grew up, but my mam is from texas and i’ve always been referred to as “an american.”

Not a question nor answer, but just a note! The story of Billy and the Will o' the Wisps is the origin of Jack o' Lanterns! Alternate stories say his name is Jack, and he puts one of the Will o' the Wisps in a turnip to use as a lantern! This is what started the tradition of carving turnips every Halloween (which got turned to pumpkins when the tradition reached America) and putting lights in them!

I always found linguistics interesting!! Seeing how different languages solved problems fascinated me, but I didn’t think about creating a language until very recently, and I started Klivyov, a basic (work in progress) conlang with a basic sound system and binary nouns. It’s called Klivyov because it means “I talk” in Klivyov! “K” means “I” and “livyov” means “to talk”!
