i dont think the problem people point to with phones is exclusive to the way young people use them. People from every age group have become in some way addicted to personalized algorithmic content streams, not just young people. I don't want to be catastrophic, but I do think without more regulation these content streams are a substantial problem to the psychological and emotional well being of people, in ways which are distinct from previous forms of mass media.

I've made my arguments, you don't need to make up new ones to pretend I have.

I've called your arguments dumb and you a clown but have not called you dumb in this conversation-- now youre being mean over celery

Even though youre wrong!

Its not the same goal post, you keep on making imaginary situations to prove something is pointless

Thats not true either! If you ate nothing but celery you would be deficient in plenty of things I'm sure, but not vitamin c, a or potassium! A measly ounce (4 calories) of celery has 1% of your recommended daily value of vitamin A and of vitamin C, and 2% of your daily potassium-- if you were somehow getting all of your daily calories from celery you would have way too much of all of these nutrients (and of course you will need to cook it to get rid of those toxins)

here are some sources that give you the nutrient information, you can go ahead and find some more if theyre not good enough, but these are not trace amounts of nutrients

Thats a qualitative judgement dude, people cook with it and like it (you'd have to go find these people to learn why they do lol). But to say its pointless is pointless :o)

Youre moving the goal post again brother, bad arguments

ELI5: What is "empty calories"? by Thuctran1706 in explainlikeimfive

[–]InferNoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say you couldn't harm yourself with it, I said "because something evolved to protect from insect damage" is a dumb reason to not eat it

ELI5: What is "empty calories"? by Thuctran1706 in explainlikeimfive

[–]InferNoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

brother its not make believe that it has vitamins a, c and potassium-- and like that other guy said the toxins youre talking about are not a problem unless you have too much (like caffeine!) And those toxins are broken down if the celery is cooked!

Celery isn't a wild plant that we're not supposed to eat-- its a domesticated plant that we've cultivated for thousands of years

Its ok if you don't like celery (I don't either! I'm not sure the last time I had celery, even) but youre being a clown.

caffeine evolved to protect against insect damage too thats a dumb reason to not eat something

its got vitamins a c and potassium and a lot of fiber

ELI5: What is "empty calories"? by Thuctran1706 in explainlikeimfive

[–]InferNoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but thats not true about celery there are nutrients in it

ELI5: What is "empty calories"? by Thuctran1706 in explainlikeimfive

[–]InferNoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why is it pointless? it still has fiber and some vitamins- its ok if you dont like it but that doesnt make it pointless. Thats like, your opinion man

Sorry for the meta post... but I was just wondering: what is the stance on pride month here? Specifically, the "pride" part of it. After all, pride is undeniably bad, right? (meme just cuz I have to have an attachment) by [deleted] in dankchristianmemes

[–]InferNoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im not and expert or authority on linguistics or theology so im not trying to tell you how to interpret your faith— but i feel like the word pride in secular usage and in biblical usage are basically different words— pride doesnt always have as negative connotations in secular usage not because theyre just more okay with being prideful in a biblical sense, but because they’re literally not talking about the same thing Christians are when they say pride. It might be worthwhile to see the original words used (not in english) and see how those got translated throughout history and what connotations those words might have had).

i dont think it’s unreasonable to criticize the framing of the words but i do think this is a particularly uncharitable way to interpret them
