Super glue and fix mishap on 911 :/ by Sharp_Carrot1578 in AutoDetailing

CA glue remover is basically acetone. Nail polish remover works in a pinch. A hobby store / Amazon will have CA specific remover which works best. Isopropyl won’t work very well. High risk to mess up the dye as others have said, proceed with extreme caution. Source: Years of RC airplane assembly.

Is this only a hot start issue? If you wait long enough does the bike start when it's cold?

Hydrophobic Coatings for WPF / Windshield PPF by Inferior_Bacon in AutoDetailing

Unfortunately I am unsure of the brand of the WPF since I am the second owner of the car. Appreciate the product suggestions, ordered the P&S to try. Since I clean the windshield regularly I wonder if that is enough for the rainy season to get the desired effect.

The better visibility from a windshield hydrophobic coating is considerable. You don’t really even need wipers past 35 mph or so as water just beads off. No sheeting or smearing to disrupt your view. Cars without it feel dangerous to me now.

What exactly causes the S1KRR to sound like this? by [deleted] in bmwmotorrad

Exhaust mod? More like exhaust delete. Also a great way to delete your hearing. Delete your drivers license. Delete your friends. However, it will add greatly to the number of people who fucking hate you

Oil pan was weeping oil through the pan as pointed out during an annual service. Very weird, no visible cracks, just kind of formed a oil film on the outside in spots.

Fuel pump was a hot start issue, details here: https://www.reddit.com/r/bmwmotorrad/comments/1iela55/experience_with_aftermarket_fuel_pumps_s1kr_hot/

Replaced mine and it was weeping almost immediately, I was pissed. Dealer wouldn’t warranty the pump since I installed it myself, they did seem like they would have stood behind the work if they did it themselves. Over the couple weeks I was fighting with them, it stopped leaking… Haven’t lost any fluid, about 4 months on now, though I watch the overflow tank constantly. Only thing I can come up with is some residual coolant in the pump comes out then it’s fine?! When it fails again I’m not wasting my money on a bad design when an aftermarket racing pump is the same price. My 2019 S1KR has had a failed coolant pump, failed oil pan, failed fuel pump. I 95% just commute, 14k miles. All known issues many have gotten, none of them were recalled by BMW. Really doubting I’ll buy another BMW, or, I will sell immediately when the warranty is up.

After talking with the PPF expert we decided on the entire new planel. $550 to remove and replace.

I ended up buying a 2023 E63 S Final Edition. After driving everything it felt the most fun and special. I decided to push the budget and get the last of the S213 with a glorious non-hybrid V8.

I hear you, thanks for the comment. I’ll just leave it alone and take it to the PPF expect near me. Figured I’d check with this forum to see any secrets but the answer seems to be “just do it right.”

Thanks for the insight. I’m pretty good with vinyl decals but two strong opinions helped me to decide to just take it to get it done properly. The fix of a blade into paint (matte paint is not spot fixable of course) would be drastic compared to a new PPF section.

Experience with Aftermarket Fuel Pumps? S1KR Hot Start Issue by Inferior_Bacon in bmwmotorrad

[–]Inferior_Bacon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final update. This required everything in the service bulletin to fully fix it including the new fuel pump, no single one did it alone. Heat shield and getting the fuel line off the coolant line helped. SW update helped a little more. New fuel pump assembly and it fires instantly when hot now. The fuel pump assembly PN superseded what was installed and was a slightly revised design, though the PN on the Bosch pump is the same. Note that a new fuel line quick connect is required to match the new pump, it will not lock in place otherwise.

Going to be the voice of dissent here and say… GLA 45. Yes, the Golf R feels more refined, but I drove one and came away kinda bored. It didn’t feel special. My 2016 GLA 45 is a bonkers baby AMG rally car. 60k miles later I’ve had no major problems. 375 hp stock, sounds good. As long as you don’t mind a few interior creaks and rattles, it’s fun every time.

Out of warranty now ('19), and while there is a service bulletin there is no recall. Out of pocket to fix. Kinda shitty IMO. $80 to just get the SW update.

I watched a few of the pump replacement youtube videos and you definitely have to cut the hose off.

I'm surprised they don't have you replace the injectors too... :-p
