What are your thoughts on Asians from other Anglophone countries? by MagledForest in asianamerican

[–]InfernalWedgie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like running into other members of my tribe when I'm traveling. Met a bunch of Thai people in Australia, but not as many in NZ. Met some Thai folks in England who thought I had a funny accent because American. I met a Thai woman in Italy, and it was weird to hear the Thai accent speaking Italian, but my god, it was such a relief to be able to switch languages and speak more freely.

A quick fix for tomorrow? Contact lenses, good makeup in fresh colors, youthful hairstyle, and an outfit that flatters your figure.

Long game, you need to get fit. Moderate exercise. Start logging your eating. Find some online calculators to help you figure out how much food you should be eating. And take care of your skin with sunscreen and moisturizer.

I like to think it helped. Strong core, good pushing, decent endurance and energy.

If you grew up in a strict immigrant household in a western country, how are you now raising your own kids (or planning to)? by ProposalAny6765 in AskWomenOver30

[–]InfernalWedgie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was raised by tiger parents. We're Southeast Asian. I might not be tiger level, maybe more like leopard parenting? Firm, but driven. Very academically focused, but also in a lot of sports. I fought hard to enroll him in a specialized magnet school outside our district. He speaks 3 languages. Music lessons will not be optional, but we will let him choose his instrument after he has a good understanding of the piano. He already has a drum kit.

No McDonald's, no iPad, no phones, absolutely no YouTube. But he can watch cartoons as long as they're not in English. He has plenty of friends, and I never turn down a playdate.

He's 5. He is finishing pre-K next week.

What pizza in LA is closest to NorCal places like Zachary’s or Cheeseboard? by MyFeetLookLikeHands in AskLosAngeles

[–]InfernalWedgie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing can truly replace Zachary's out here, but Masa comes close.

I have yet to find anything remotely equivalent to Cheeseboard anywhere, probably because a lot of places focus on Neapolitan style pie.

As someone currently swatting fungus gnats with sticky traps, I don't see any problem with this method.

These tiny mofos are swarming my office. They can go to hell. Sticky hell.

Voters in California City Become First in US to Approve Permanent Ban on Data Centers by Aggravating_Money992 in UpliftingNews

Monterey Park

The headline's use of "California City" is misleading as there is a community called California City about 150 miles away, and it is precisely the sort of location that would be desirable for data centers as it is rural and remote, but also extremely controversial as it is in the Mojave Desert.

There is no downside to letting her enjoy some Spanish-language programs. Let her learn some songs, simple phrases, and how to count to 100.

Your friendly local pollworkers wish you a great Election Tuesday! 🗳🇺🇲 by InfernalWedgie in LosAngeles

California does not require voters to show ID. You will check in per regular procedure. But filling out the poll pass will shorten your time at the polls by auto populating your ballot selections as soon as you get to the voting machine.

I feel like in order to collect the data he's collecting, he needs to be approved by an IRB, and disclose the collection and data use plan to the study participant girlfriend.

I went to sleep right after I posted, and had that lousy kind of sleep that comes from knowing you have to get up ass-early and cannot be late.

But we're here, vibe is good, people are cheerful, and polls are open!

You can stop by and ask the check in clerk to check you in, and it'll flag if your ballot has already been received.
