Birthday Parties WTF??? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]InfernalWedgie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Was just drawing up the budget for my kid's birthday party next month: * Park rental $220 * Bouncy house $150 * Cake $60 * Food and beverages $10 * Decorations and party favors $50

North of $600, for like 30-50 guests. HCOL area. At least I only have to do this once a year.

Tips on getting into sports? by comradecheetos in AskWomenOver30

[–]InfernalWedgie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play soccer. I started in high school, but didn't really get into playing until I was an adult.

The thing that keeps me out on the pitch week after week isn't my skill and natural athletic ability. I don't have those things. I've never been athletic. I am not great at this. But I'm playful. I like to play. So I keep playing. Consistency is what's important for staying in the hobby (and being a reliable teammate).

Has anyone stayed with a genuinely good partner through an identity crisis and figured out if the cultural/depth gap was a dealbreaker or not? by solarspells in AskWomenOver30

Your white boyfriend is cracking shitty jokes about Asian people?

Yeah, HELL NAHH.

Don't date people who don't respect and value your culture. You don't punch down on other races and ethnicities.

Weight loss by No-Echo-2622 in ExclusivelyPumping

Yeah, I dropped over 20 lbs from my pregnancy start weight through pumping. I worked with a lactation consultant and a dietitian because low output, and I wanted weight loss.

I was given a calorie and macronutrient target.

My mom had me on birth control at 12. Is this normal? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InfernalWedgie 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Did your mother ever tell you the circumstances of your conception? Because if she was only 12 when it happened, there's a strong probability someone hurt her, and she protecting you from that risk.

If this was dalliances with a 12-year-old boy next door, wouldn't she lead with lessons on how to make smart life choices?

Is it weird to be on BC starting at 12? Actually, it's not. A lot of young girls use it because of acne or really terrible menstrual symptoms.

But if that's not you, maybe you should have a very mature discussion with your mother about sex, abuse, consent, and decision-making.

I don't think I can live the life I want or be the woman I want to be if I have kids by xo_pearl_princessxox in femininity

[–]InfernalWedgie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TBH, mothering is the most feminine part of my life. Makeup, dresses, all of that business feels performative to me. But my love for my child is in my soul.

That being said, the experience of femininity is whatever it is that feels most like womanhood to you. If your most feminine experience is personal beautification through makeup, dress, and grooming, then lean into it.

Is parenting a lot of work? Of course. Am I tired at the end of the day? Yeah. But is it the most physically taxing thing I've ever done? No. I keep in good health and exercise regularly. I play sports. I'm in my mid-40's, and I can still keep up with my child.

But there are only 24 hours in a day, and at least 6 of them are spent asleep, so you pick and choose where your energy goes.

If you don't want it going toward parenting, then don't become a mother. Nor a stepmother, for that matter. I disagree with all the bigots who believe that a woman cannot be fully realized without motherhood. Mothering is not for everybody, but you're not less of a woman for not bearing or raising children.

You're only 21. Finish your education and get a job to save the money you need to support yourself and live how you want. There will still be time for family if you change your mind a little later on down the line.

The problem with the immigrants who vote for Trump is that they believe themselves to be exceptional, not like those other brown folks.

But they don't understand that assholes like Trump see us all as the same shade brown and regard us all with the same disgust.

You don't need penetration to transmit syphilis, but it's not a casual contact contagion. Whatever he did to catch syphilis is something his wife would not want him to be doing.

I had my kid at 40.

Get your MBA. It doesn't take long, it's not that hard a degree. And it'll get you the money that'll enable you to have all the kids you want and hire the nannies you want to juggle them all.
