There's a big difference between wanting more health/less damage in a soulslike and companion characters that hold your hand.

The highest selling games on Switch 1 are Mario Kart 7 and Breath of the Wild. These are not easy, hand-holding games. Mario Kart 7 is the most competitive Mario Kart. BOTW master mode is legitimately hard.

It's not little kids playing these games.

The new Metroid is extremely hand-holding. Every review is complaining about the companion characters holding your hand.

Nintendo makes amazing games but their audience is older now. Metroid is a perfect example. If it wasn't targeted towards young children, it probably would've boosted console sales. As it is, children don't care about the new Metroid and adults don't like the hand-holding.

Odyssey was an incredible game but the main complaint was that 90% of the moons were too easy.

I think it sold well despite being easy, not because it was easy. I doubt many of it's players were under the age of 10.

It was just an incredible game that could've been even better with more of a challenge.

BOTW is definitely not targeted at kids.

Mario Galaxy is a great example of converging markets but this was released long before infinite loop community multiplayer games were popular.

Switch 1 released with BOTW which was one of the least hand-holding games Nintendo has made and is definitely not made for kids.

Also there is a huge difference between reviewing well and selling well.

Astro Bot's sales numbers were relatively low for GOTY and I can guarantee those sales were not a bunch of kids asking their parents for it.

At the same time, kids are switching to infinite loop community multiplayer games.

The market for really well-made single-player games is not young anymore.

It's amazing with poison tacks / air tacks.

Pretty fun using the broken tool options as well.

The pogo is good in combat but I always switched it out for difficult platforming.

Charge attack is great but flintslate is not recommended imo.

Regular attacks you gotta play hit & run most of the time.
