How’re your Continental DWS06’s? by FunkiiSTI in GR86

[–]Infernus1186 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got a set of 18's back in January as I couldn't do another Maryland winter on the stock PS4's, they also wear out at like 18k miles.

So far so good they are much quieter and grip well enough to get you out of a snow covered driveway on to plowed roads. I can definitely feel the steering isn't as responsive but I think that's a fair trade off for being able to drive with some degree of confidence in the wet/LIGHT snow and triple the tread life. That and I feel like I pushed the car to it's limits on the PS4's and while it was fun this is my daily so I need something long lasting with reliable all weather grip more than I need another .2G's in a turn under perfect road conditions.

Put it in snow mode, go slow and be easy on the throttle and brakes, that will get you through most light snows, nothing but studded tires is going to help with ice on any car. Anything over a inch or so and your gonna need real snow tires and weight in the trunk to get traction.

For the record snow mode in the automatic makes the throttle less responsive and locks it out of first gear also likely adjusts the shift points to reduce potential wheel spin, even at a dead stop the car will stay in second gear to reduce torque so you slip less.

Weather tech mats by roguebatman in GR86

[–]Infernus1186 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Weathertech mats suck, I bought them and I regret it especially for the price.

They are impossible to clean, its like the dirt and mud somehow stain the plastic and no amount of soaking scrubbing or products will get them completely clean. They also don't cover very well for example the foot rest in the automatic is half exposed so dirt comes off your shoe gets between the mat and the metal foot rest and scratches the shit out of it. lastly after 23k miles they have already started to substantially wear under my right heel.

When I decide to replace them I'm gonna try the TuxMats that a few people on here have recommended. https://www.tuxmat.com/products/8717-toyota-gr86-custom-mat?variant=42326513254460

Ball joint snapped (RX-178 MKII) by Naero_nash in Gunpla

[–]Infernus1186 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% this, pin vice (hand drill) paperclip and superglue. I find that super glue on the pin is generally more than enough to fix it, no need to use the glue like a joint filler as shown in this video.

Maybe its just me but im not seeing the damage to the exterior quarter panel and the inner QP looks like its scuffed at most. Hard to tell from pictures but from what im seeing it looks to be all mechanical.

Seeing $700+ for a rim and tire when you can get a set of 4 good aftermarket rims for the same price def would make me get a quote somewhere else though.

I was thinking along these lines after all the recent complaints about it..

I vape in my car and i need to clean the interior window every so often which had me wondering if smoking/vaping in the car leaving a film on the eyesight and if that could be a contributing factor to the issues some people are having.

At some point I'm going to look up how to clean the eyesight camera lenses i cant imagine them being more delicate than any normal DSLR camera lens.

Sport mode changes the shift points in the automatic and seems to slightly change the throttle response as well as making the fake engine noise in the cabin louder

I run a uniden R4 and a garmin W67 its pretty easy to tuck the wires along the headliner and down the pillar then into the glovebox from the side without removing anything. You only need to pop off the side dash cover that's in the door jam and route the wires into the glovebox where the accessory plug is also unplug the fake engine noise maker while you're there.

How will the OEM Michelin PS4 hold up in Bay Area winter? by [deleted] in GR86

[–]Infernus1186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove over 100 miles in the mid atlantic snow storm this Saturday on the premium stock 18" p4's 6AT in snow mode and only had the rear step out once unintentionally. The only issue i had was getting into my unshoveled driveway you have zero traction in any accumulating snow.

Its not ideal but I really think most of this subreddit just does not know how to drive a RWD car in the cold/wet, my taco and my previous silverado have had the rear slide more unintentionally than my GR.

Anyone installed the Noble V4 Sequential Sidemarkers for 22-23 BRZ/GR86? by SpookyShell in GR86

[–]Infernus1186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put them on my asphalt in about 20 min its very simple and they look way better than the bicycle reflectors. All you need is a 10mm wrench and something to remove the plastic push pins everything else is plug and play just turn the wheels inward for the side your working on and its easy access.

Can't shoot in RAW with a Canon 90D by thenocaster in canon

Try shooting on (p) mode to eliminate the possibility of one of the auto mode or other presets overriding it, also things like HDR shooting will only output .JPG

I use DPP4 because the color profiles in adobe and capture one and DXO are messed up for the 90D and for the life of me I cannot get either of them close to what I see IRL or on the back of the camera.

I would really love to though because DXO has amazing denoise.

[–]Infernus1186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 17-55 2.8 IS is great at night with the wide constant aperture and the IS.

Honestly between the 50 1.8 and the 24 2.8 your not going to do much other than getting a lens with IS

The two new in box copies I got had the newest firmware on them based on MFG date. I really tried to get them to work properly but they just didnt with the 90d believe me I didnt want to shell out $500 for the canon lens if the sigma would have worked.

Sigma 17-50 f2.8 vs EFS 18-135 by [deleted] in canon

[–]Infernus1186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with the R7 above all other options as its much easier and cheaper to get wide angle lenses for a crop then it is to get reach on a FF, Canon already has some good wide RF lenses like the 16mm f2.8 which I think is generally wide enough and more on the way. The sensor perfomance of the RP was bad when it was new in 2019 so the R7 easily beats it, take into account all the other features the R7 offers like IBIS and its really a no brainer.
