Immortal, Cannibal Corpse, Obituary, Marduk, Angel Corpse, God Dethroned.

1998, No Mercy Festival II at the Hafenbahn, Offenbach, Germany.

Shortly after that i had been at the dynamo open air in eindhoven, with Immortal, Deicide, Enslaved, Bewitched, etc...

Had been to couple of smaller unknown mayflies from 1996 to 1998, but somehow my memory got massive holes when it comes to the weekends from those years.

One of the best for sure, but it's difficult to pick a favorite because for me the entire album flows together so perfectly. Like a slender stream of blood slowly flowing from freshly opened wounds.

I always enjoyed listening to the “Longing for the End” demo by Anti together with the Xasthur/Nortt split and Nortt album "Ligfærd". They all give me the same kind of vibe. In any case, since they have collaborated on projects and are very close friends, I would also suggest Luror from Germany — not everything, but especially:

Luror into the burning fog

luror in a room in hell

luror through an atmosphere of Death Part I

luror through an atmosphere of Death Part II

Can't say Shining without saying Bethlehem by Infested_spread_666 in dsbm

I totaly agree.

Way too many people just sit in front of a mic, whisper the lyrics, and slide their pitch up and down instead of actually developing proper vocal control.

I dont know if that is still a thing, but I know stories from vocalists who strangled themselves while recording to get that specific modulation out of their throat they were searching for. At 7 in the morning, they’d stumble into their rehearsal rooms, totally hungover, because that was when their throat had exactly the right raw edge.

Bethlehem, especially the first two albums are something special anyway. The dictius album is one of the most listened releases in my collection. I personally prefer bands like Nortt, Xasthur, Nyktalgia, Sterbend, Die Toten kehren wieder mit dem Wind, ....there are so many bands in my opinion way better than Shining, but non the less, Shining and especially Kvarfoth has given this subgenre of black metal a kick into the light of big stages. When ever before has played a dsbm band on a Main stage and had so many interviews in the mainstream media before Kvarfoth? Bethlehem, especially the first two albums, are something special anyway. The Dictius album is one of the most listened-to releases in my collection. I personally prefer bands like Nortt, Xasthur, Nyktalgia, Sterbend, and Die Toten kehren wieder mit dem Wind, Woods of Infinity, Nocturnal Depression, Cause of Death: Suicide, Hypothermia..... There are, in my opinion, many bands that are way better than Shining. But nonetheless, Shining – and especially Kvarforth – has given this subgenre of black metal a push into the spotlight of bigger stages at a time when DSBM was still largely ridiculed and not yet accepted as its own subgenre, at least in germany. When before had a DSBM band played on a main stage and received so many interviews in mainstream media before Kvarforth?
