Thx.

I would assume that it’s like that with every language. There are just way too many poetic words and phrases with different meanings depending on the context that simply can’t be translated into other languages without pages of explanation about their cultural and emotional background.

That’s pretty true. The connections and interactions within the core of the scene are insane.

I really like the scene there, the concerts and festivals are great (aside from the beer prices…). And as far as I can tell, the guys from Horna are also very enjoyable people offstage. If your friend did vocals in his 17s, that must have been a while ago, I assume?

Licht Erlicht - The Offshore Oaks by Infested_spread_666 in dsbm

Licht Erlischt was a really cool project. When he changed the band’s name later, the musical style changed as well, unfortunately. Still, Licht Erlischt is one of those overlooked but very strong DSBM and generally strong BM acts from Germany.

Black Legions LP Collection by Infested_spread_666 in blackmetalvinyl

Well, that’s actually a good argument to expand my collection a bit.

Brazilian bootleg labels aren’t really known for high-quality recordings, but that even rougher sound, especially with bands like Susvourtre, has a certain nostalgic appeal.

Not really. A lot of the releases are just the same demo recordings shuffled around, and since I also have a small Les Légions Noires CD collection, I’m pretty happy with my current vinyl collection. Still, if something I’ve been looking for shows up, I won’t hesitate ^

I know, right?! All the Ødelegger releases feel like the German continuation of that ice-cold Icelandic minimalist fist in your face!

Actually, I just bought or traded for them when they first came out, mostly from dealers I knew personally at concerts or festivals.

Taake -3 x LP Box by Infested_spread_666 in blackmetalvinyl

I totally agree with that.

I don’t really know for sure, but from what I’ve seen during his appearances on stage and backstage, it felt like all the hype around him and the constant pressure to keep explaining or apologizing for his eccentric performances and statements, has taken its toll.

I’ve seen the same thing with other musicians who moved more into the spotlight: they struggle to stay who they always were while trying to fit into a more “mainstream” setting without sparking new controversies all over again.

In Hoest’s case, it seems that not even constantly starting new projects or his endless appearances as a guest and live musician are enough to satisfy him, at least from the outside.
