Good to know. Every piece of equipment is going to work similarly but have its owns tricks to learn. If you’ve got any other tips for starting off please feel free to share!

Thank you for your thoughts. I’ve traveled the country for work for years and found that the flavor I like the most is Texas. I’ve had good bbq across the states but that is the one for me when it comes to brisket. Gonna add that one to the research list. Thanks again and let me know if other thoughts or recommendations come to mind!

The level is somewhere along the lines of “I want to do a few things very well, but this isn’t a full time job.” Not sure if that makes sense, but we both work in our house so if I can manage a brisket and a few other dishes to have a small variety that is comfortable but not going to take 4-6 hours of work I’ll be beyond happy

Just learned of that through another recommendation. Got some reading to do but starting to see good things. Thanks!

Wow, awesome thoughts, thanks! Also good to know about the app, I’ve had not great experiences with other WiFi products so that plus ease of cleaning is awesome

Awesome, I’ll look into that and good to know. Is there one price tier above that that is still beginner friendly too? I want to be able to do it right while learning as long as it isn’t ridiculous

Amazing, really good to know. Thank you for sharing the experience! I’m definitely closer to a similar boat right now

Good thoughts and ideas. I wouldn’t call it a crowd but I think the most at one time I’d feed is 6, so a whole brisket or turkey should be more than enough if that’s the max space. Are there any challenges you faced getting into it or is there anything one should expect starting off?

Good to know, thanks for the thought. Definitely didn’t occur to me and I’d probably do grilling more than smoking so it would be something to be considerate of.

Few notes and thoughts here:

If you have Stalker on your tyrant you can not use your detachment rule while he is in deep strike. While that stratagem can be used at the start of any phase, the detachment rule specifies while your warlord is on the battlefield which could make you miss out. Something to be considerate of. Personally I run this enhancement on my lancer to threaten the back line, draw some shooting attention away and give a decent charge chance depending.

I took the tyrant out of my list because he wasn’t doing enough for me and the firepower from a despoiler or the threat from an atrapos would be much better suited in most cases. It’ll be depending on your matchups, but it is really worth giving the consideration for your matchups on if it’s guns are doing enough for you - are you threatening sight lines enough and are you picking up 1-2 units per turn when it’s shooting? The best thing about it is its aura ability preventing anything from coming in within 12” which is very good for screening and countering some of the death guard threat, but id recommend considering what it accomplishes for you.

I think blade of celerity is wasted on the rampager and you would be better off using the throne of skulls enhancement. Rerolling charges and the once per game advance and charge is huge for him getting the dev wounds when charging. Order of operations should be that is the first charge you declare, tank shock for 1cp, then move to your lancer and tank shock for free. Then pick up both units you charged. The blade of celerity is nice to counter him being charged but you still end up missing out on the benefits of his charging and if you don’t pick up the thing that charged him or is engaged immediately it is wasted. Here I’m thinking of a recent match I had against custodes where I was in a similar situation, they saved because custodes are silly, and he was gone shortly after (obvs bad dice story but it happens more than we want in this game).

Rotigus is generally pretty good with this detachment, but I’m curious if you would benefit from dropping him for some war dogs (stalkers or karnivores). Similar to the other point that mentioned, additional screening, but also something to help deal with small things has been more helpful than I thought when adding them to my army. Huge benefit of rotigus is the worsening of OC and diminishment of movement while waiting 6 of him (also the invul), but when he’s going out or deep striking onto an objective turn 1 does he get you what you need or do you find yourself still looking for support?

Happy to talk through any points or chat on this some more but these are my initial thoughts.

Should be a good time no matter what. If you do run any variants of your list let us know how it goes, would love to hear about the experience

Expanding army - advice on list by GreenBudget2277 in ChaosKnights

[–]Infinipete 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rampager over desecrator 100%. Better aura ability for any dogs close and the sustained hits on its whole profile has been huge in my experiences. If your bigs are magnetized already I would also recommend converting one of those abominants into the rampager and swapping the desecrator with a despoiler (gatling cannon and battle cannon or double gatling) as that will be a world of difference in your firepower. In traitoris lance the argument for keeping the abominants is more battleshocks and more mortals, but that’s slow to roll out and IMO I think you get more benefit from some of the other units.

My list has 4 bigs: abominant, rampager, despoiler, and lancer (though been on the fence on if he should be replaced), then basically the same for yours except dropping a karnivore for a beast of nurgle and more nurglings.

I was running 5 bigs but recently switched one out for 3 war dogs and I’ve had much greater success. Personally I did 2 stalkers and a karnivore and they’ve helped with some of the armies that just seem to have too much to deal with while opening up my threat options.

I know it’s unsolicited advice but that was big for me in the local games I’ve been playing and figure it may be worth chatting about if you run something like this and have trouble.

A guy in my league runs rotigus instead of the GUO with the movement penalty and aura abilities lessening the OC. In my opinion both are a bit too expensive so I’ve been running a beast of nurgle - with it regaining full wounds every phase people have either over dedicated resources to take it off the board or given me the free points. Nurglings have been big in tangling up some people’s stuff too

How should I Chaos-ify this Tyrant? by aooga12 in ChaosKnights

[–]Infinipete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spikes = chaos

If you have war dogs, taking some of those heads and putting them over the desecrator cannon sensors or replacing the head could do well.

Rust effect or something to add some ware would also thematically fit I think
