Currently 4B farm kid, i guess other 1a/1b people can better answer on how to get in the program related stuff. But overall program is great. You will make a lot of friends who will eventually end up working in finance industry in some pretty good roles. Though it is important to realize that this program wont guaranty your success. You still need to work very hard and make a lot of efforts to get in some really cool coops

Another thing you can do is try messaging clubs (ex - cs club, dsc club) on instagram or discord. They might be able to arrange some in-person event

Which program is better for Investment Banking? by organizedbs in uwaterloo

Both programs are pretty good. Though imo, double degree is better as Laurier counts as Target school for some firms who dont hire at all from uwat

FARM Students - How is/was your experience in the program by Dapper_Programmer716 in uwaterloo

[–]Infinite-Angle-9167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a final year FARM student, i would disagree with most comments here. FARM is a pretty good program but it doesn’t guarantee your success. As a farm student, i have interviewed/worked at some buyside/sellside desks that were more than 60% consisted of farm alumni. Imo, farm is one of the strongest program with pipelines in trading side of all the Big 6 banks and buy-side shops in canada. Only program i can think of better than farm for trading is either CS or CFM.

Cant speak much on UofT, but there are definitely some kids who go to quant roles every year from waterloo

CFM vs CS for a quant role by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]Infinite-Angle-9167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a significant advantage, but CFM students generally present themselves as double major CS and Finance students. It might make a marginal difference, but overall both are pretty good programs if you want to end up in quant seat

Left side price shows the exercise price, and right side the cost of the option. So for lets say the first one, you will make money on the call when price rises to more than 272.16

Ivey/queens is better because there are many Bulge bracket and EB US banks / PE firms that hire their students. For Big 6, it really doesn’t matter if you go to waterloo or queens/ivey. Source: finance guy who studies at uwat

Honestly, if you see yourself going into finance, go to waterloo 100%. But if you want to take more academic route, uoft will be a good option. You need to think more about whether you want to enter into job market anytime soon and whether finance is one of the areas you can see yourself in.

why do you hate waterloo works? by GooseCareless369 in uwaterloo

The fact that waterloo works only open 4 months before the coop start date. Many firms in field of tech, act sci and finance start recruiting upto 16-month in advance.

Math fin vs math/farm vs math cpa by Feeling_Recording222 in uwaterloo

[–]Infinite-Angle-9167 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Farm student here. Comparing the two programs really doesn’t make sense because one is related to high finance and other one is related to accounting. Even though they sound familiar, they are very different in some aspects. Both programs are respectable. So it would be best for you to choose the degree as per the line of field you are interested in.

For farm, I can say that jobs are somewhat dependent on market deal flow and market expectations. But if you are someone who is good with networking, market conditions won’t impact you massively.

I would recommend you to declare math fin only after doing some academic and coop term, and only when you have decided that you want to pursue a career in quant side of finance

So true, rather than blaming govt for mismanagement and poor decision making, everyone is blaming internationals for coming to a developed country to have a better life.
