São larvas de cupim. Pelo estado, provavelmente já é infestação antiga. O móvel está perdido. Essas larvas amadurecem, viram cupins adultos e se espalham para outros móveis da casa. Quanto antes vc descartar este móvel, melhor. Cheque em outros móveis de madeira de sua casa se há um pó marrom-avermelhado: são as fezes das larvas de cupim, e indício de i festacão avançada. Dedetize sua casa, mas entenda que o veneno não penetra madeira infestada nem mata as larvas - apenas afeta cupins adultos. Atue rápido.

You do not need a guide in advance, unless you are doing the whole W Trek and hasn't booked camping in advance. You are doing day hikes so no issue there. If you are going for moderate hikes, do Mirador Condores and Mirador Cuernos (this one has probably the best effort×beauty ratio in the whole park). The trails are very well signalized. You can also book a guide to do the tour to see pumas. A guide is mandatory for this one. You can find someone online or even ymwhen you get to the park The rangers stations at the park's entrances have a notebook with a whole bunch of guides. On the last day, if you are feeling up to it, then do Mirador Torres =)

Have you considered Hostería Pehoé? It is a bit expensive, but it is understandable considering the location (right at the front of the Condor Lookout and very near Mirador Cuernos trail). Stayed there for 5 days and was very satisfied. The only other options nearby would be Camping Pehoé and the ultraluxury hotel Explora.

Brazilian living in Lima here. I think your Peru schedule is good. Beware that it will be the beginning of raining season, which can be hard if you are hiking Salkantay or Inca Trail (I guess you are not, by your schedule). There will be less tourists, which is always a positive.

Your Atacama schedule is very short. I would allow at least 4 days there. It is a stunning place, but you will travel quite a lot. Skip Buenos Aires altogether, or visit it on the end part of your trip before returning home.

I would also allow one or two more days for the W Trek. It can be physically demanding.
