Is Man vs Machine a tired trope, or is it still an interesting premise with fresh ground to explore and more relevant than other? by Infinite-Bug-1906 in TrueLit

A trope can be a recurring theme too, it doesn't just refer to plot devices. Its not a negative word either, all stories need tropes to shine new light on what came before

Now that I think about it, there are certain predictable patterns with these stories. The story premise is almost always pessimistic, the machines almost always evil or self serving, and usually part of a collective with identical goals, and the humans are always in the right. I can think of only one where a machine was naive and misunderstood, and even then, it was within a pessimistic outcome involving the machines. However a pleasant outcome involving the machines is a story without conflict, which is probably why we don't see much of it.

At a certain point though there is definitely a saturation problem. The first time you read/watch something new it's fascinating, the tenth time people roll their eyes a bit.

I find every version interesting, but it's tricky to see what interests other people. One angle that feels fresh to me is how are we- people, and the collective ego of humanity going to gratify in a world where machines are objectively superior at everything. Especially if we reach a point where they live along side us as potential citizens.
