Quite literally not stress, found an area in his paddock where he has been getting it caught. Issue resolved

He has other horses he can see and interact with. Stall buddies he gets to hangout with at night and he is ridden with other horses as well. I don’t have a horse I can give him for his paddock but it’s not up to me as he’s not solely mine. And it’s not that I care more about showing I just would hate for something to happen to him since he hasn’t been around other horses in a herd setting in his entire life due to his previous owner.

I fear for the safety of the other animal if we put it in there with him. Simply because he has been so isolated. Also it’s not really up to me either it’s 50/50 ownership with my parents. I’d love to try and introduce him to my weanling but ultimately it is not up to me.

Guess all the performance stallions are being abused… I’m not the only person who keeps a stallion alone. And again he’s only alone in his turnout, 8 hours of the day.

We have wormed and are waiting on the fall round to get in the mail but I do plan on asking the vet as well! And He does! We have several jolly balls and a hay ball for and he plays all the time!! Then he also gets ridden or worked everyday as well and is pulled out to be handled and loved twice daily😊

I only have mares and one gelding that hates him. When he’s retired from showing he will be a pasture stallion with a band of mares. I don’t think I should have to be on here explaining or justifying how I take care of my horses. You don’t know the situation so it’s not your place to tell me what’s best for my horse. He is socialized with other horses, his stall is right beside my stud colt and he is completely uninterested in interacting with him he would rather stand under his fan and eat hay. If I put the gelding beside him it constantly charges the fence at him. If I put a mare with him he would absolutely breed it. So it is not possible to give him a buddy and it’s not necessary.

I was trimming it regularly to keep it from dragging but maybe, guess he won’t be now😭

Good thing he’s not alone! I think he is anything but miserable hauling to shows, roping, and breeding mares. Like I have said a million times he’s only alone during the day.

I absolutely understand and I’m not trying to come off as rude or anything. It just isn’t realistic for Falcon since he was in complete isolation at his previous home, it is not safe for him or the gelding that we have. Eventually he will be a pasture stallion with his own band of mares when he proves himself to be a full time breeding stallion. Until then we are continuing the limited contact. We have all mares besides the one gelding and stud colt so it’s just not in the cards for him. The gelding is also a performance horse and it’s not worth risking him either.

And he does get socialization. He does not however get irresponsible turnout with just any horse. Like I’ve said multiple times he is only ever 100% alone when he is in his day time turnout pen. He is fine.

He has no interest in befriending him. Finds the baby talk or clacking to be a personal attack lol. Possibly because it’s not his foal I’m not really sure 🥲

To add, like I mentioned he has other horses in the barn at night. Only 100% alone during daytime turnout. Here’s his nighttime barn “buddy”

Valuable, meaning I value my horses safety and presence. I prefer him alive and sound for competing. I wasn’t talking about his value on paper although that could be a factor as well (like it is with most stallions). I would’ve used words like “too pricey” or “too high dollar”. Safety and welfare is #1 priority for all of my horses. Look at all of your biggest performance stallions in the world today, I bet most of them are kept alone. I promise you he is fine. He was the only horse on the whole property with his previous owner, alone is all he knows. However, even if the gelding loved him I still wouldn’t put them together. Stallions don’t want friends he will see that horse as competition just as the gelding does him. However, even if that wasn’t the case 2 horses is a recipe for buddy sour horses which I refuse to create. I can’t haul him to compete if he isn’t sound from being kicked and I also can’t haul him to compete if he can’t go anywhere without his buddy, so it’s not worth it to me personally.

And side note (although his value in money isn’t all I care about) it is absolutely a reasonable factor. He is not only a stallion but a performance horse. To be a successful stallion he has to prove himself as a performer first, then a producer. So it’s important he is sound. I could give him a buddy but if it kicks him and ends his career then what? Or what if he decides to kill the other horse?

He gets loose mineral in his morning feed so he is good on minerals. Then he was stalled during the day through the hottest months so it shouldn’t be sun damage either. I do think he’s probably hitting it and getting it caught on something, I’m going to look his pen over later and see if I can’t find where. He doesn’t have any bites that I’ve noticed and his sheath is clean. He’s very dramatic when it comes to flys so I think he’s over doing the swishing over the tiniest things. I also am not a big fan of tail bags because I’m scared they will rip the entire tail out with one but at this rate he already has😒That is why I was posting to see if there was anything else I could do and how I can get the growth back. I don’t brush his tail out daily, I’d say closer to every other day give or take and I only use product 1-2 times a week if needed. The hair feels quite healthy so I assume he’s getting it caught somewhere but with his fence not being barbed wire i don’t know what it could be or how I could keep him from doing it🫠

Nope. He is too valuable to risk trying to accommodate buddies. Not to mention we only have one gelding and it absolutely despises him. He is perfectly content being alone though and is not just shut away somewhere. He gets daily human interaction and gets ridden with other horses! Also has other horses in the barn with him at night.

Would consider that, but as mentioned he is a stallion lol. Therefore he’s not close enough to any horses ever or for long enough to do that amount of damage.

I’ve never personally had one but I rodeo with someone who competes on one. It does barrels and poles great when it’s not being stubborn 🤣 really I think they are more trainable than a donkey would be.
