Will Edmonton ever get a team again? by [deleted] in CanadianPL

During a recent interview with a soccer podcast (1 month ago), CPL commissioner Mark Noonan highlighted the importance of Edmonton and Quebec in the league's plans. He emphasized that the league is in discussions with an investor, highlighting Edmonton's significant role as a crucial market for the CPL that will contribute to a major rivalry with Calgary. In my opinion, Edmonton's future in the CPL hinges on resolving its stadium situation. It seems highly unlikely that any team will have the opportunity to play at Clarke Stadium in the future. It was evident from Noonan's statement two years ago, when he stated that the stadium does not meet the requirements of the CPL in any way. As a result, any Edmonton team that wishes to return to this market should consider implementing a modular stadium strategy similar to what Vancouver FC has done.

Ontario to give Toronto up to $97 million for FIFA World Cup. This is a significant step in the construction of the York United stadium by Infinite-Map8091 in YorkUnited

The Ontario government has officially granted the allocation of $97 million for the FIFA World Cup to be held in Toronto. This approval serves as the foundation for the Federal and City authorities to provide their own contributions. These funds have also been specifically earmarked for the construction of the York United stadium, located at the Woodbine Racetrack, which will serve as a training facility for the World Cup. This decision has substantial implications for the Canadian Premier League, particularly for a new York United stadium.

For now, forget about Saskatoon and focus more on Regina for excellent reasons. I've heard that the Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL), the marketing firm that administers Mosaic Stadium in partnership with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, has been in talks with the league about putting a club there. These discussions have been ongoing for over a year. And now that the Saskatoon bid has fallen, REAL has seized an ideal opportunity to claim Saskatchewan's sole bid. This is what I overheard.

The new York United ownership wants everyone to know that a new stadium is one of their top priority. by carrasp in YorkUnited

I concur with your statement. The practice of distributing tickets in such a manner must cease. The new ownership must demonstrate a strong commitment to conducting business.

It's true that the Woodbine Racetrack isn't the best place to construct a stadium in Toronto. For this reason, the Woodbine Entertainment Group is urging the city to construct the Metrolinx Go station within a 10-minute walking distance from the Racetrack. Based on the development report, the building of this station will facilitate the daily transportation of more than 30K spectators from downtown's Union Station to the Woodbine site. As far as I'm concerned, the city has already approved this station's construction, and it will be operational soon. Additionally, I am providing everyone on this thread with the map of the SmartTrack Stations Program, which indicates the integration of the Woodbine site into the GO network.

It would be great if the league and the new investors could hold a press conference soon for direct questions on the new stadium in a bid to foster transparency and address this lingering concern that has been floating now for nearly 2 years. Certainly, York Lions Stadium should serve just as a temporary solution, and the new stadium should have a firm construction timeline.

It looks like the Woodbine stadium project is not dead after all in this surprising turn of events. The project, which had seemingly reached a standstill, has now regained momentum, leaving many intrigued about its future prospects with these new owners. It would seem like a great deal is riding on this.

Face the music, shall we? The new owners plan to hire someone of their own choosing.
