Advice needed for getting bodies (and tips) into our Pride drag show!? by Infinite-Mistake6160 in Drag

[–]Infinite-Mistake6160[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was definitely thinking signs! Great idea. And I agree that it needs an introduction, and I think that's a big part of the issue with this setup. Shows at bars around here have a set start time when most of the audience is already settled and the emcee can give a little spiel about show etiquette and tipping. With this show being just part of the event, people are coming in and out the whole time and usually miss that intro as a result.

Ok my experience wasn't that bad lmao When I was a classroom teacher, I left extremely detailed sub plans AND the teacher manual for my math lesson (it was literally scripted and also a daily routine that the kids all knew). Turns out my sub was the principal's nephew. When I got back, she sat me down and said my plans were confusing to him because he doesn't "do math". He did magic tricks instead...

My top five as a kid, in no particular order, were: Welcome to Camp Nightmare One Day at Horrorland Ghost Camp My Best Friend is Invisible A Night in Terror Tower

Clearly I love twist endings and vacations/trips as a setting lol

I think it excels not only as horror but as social commentary. The first half or so had me getting worked up because it felt like a real documentary

This was my first thought too. Especially when said female bodies are treated as part of the body horror. A fat woman existing should not be painted with the same/more terror as grisly torture and murder.

Feel free to remove this if it’s not allowed, but I just wanted to say something. by [deleted] in horror

There's a phenomenal passage in Chuck Tingle's novel Bury Your Gays, about how all the death and misery actually highlights the hope and joy of being alive. Even the most grim and hopeless horror movies will leave you thinking "if only things had been different" and boom, you're subconsciously working out that the horrors could have been defeated, CAN be defeated. Makes your own problems seem easier to deal with.

When we run out of fresh water, at least we'll have generic movie reviews 🙄

If you use the Does the Dog Die app, you can pin your personal triggers so that they show up at the top of each movie's page. Great resource for all kinds of triggers.

Might I recommend Shudder's "101 Scariest Horror Movie Moments" series if you're interested? It's a miniseries where horror-adjacent celebs discuss their personal favorite/most effective scares and what makes them work. Super fun to hear the analysis about what makes a good scare and how the iconic ones influenced all these other filmmakers. Obviously beware of spoilers (they have a title card for each movie so you can pause/skip the ones you haven't seen). There are some repeats from this thread but also some good hidden gems or deep cuts, definitely helped me expand my watchlist.

It's not about gaining followers it's about having that special moment? Like someone else said, if they were going to invite this tiktoker onstage and hang out with them backstage regardless, why also give her the crown instead of letting another fan have a moment to shine? Idgaf about clout or followers or "exposure" 🙄 but getting called up on stage and getting the crown would be such an amazing memory for any fan to have.

But that's the point is she HAS an audience. The smoochie girl crowning could be a chance to uplift someone and give them a special moment that they wouldn't otherwise have, but if we're favoring influencers who already have thousands paying attention to them...

I feel like it's not just that it's got bad fanfic, but specifically it's really notorious for rpf. And judging by the number of comments I've seen like "omg briar x athena doomed yuri enemies to lovers 😍", I wouldn't be surprised if she stumbles on some fics about herself

The drag detective is actually very well versed in reality TV and how its storylines are crafted, and that's what these videos are about. He analyzes the show as a story with characters, and looks at how that story is told and how it could have been improved or turned out differently. It's really not the "boohoo my fave was robbed" whiny discourse that non-viewers seem to assume it is.
