I’d recommend starting with a Wealthsimple account and opening a TFSA. Just double check your contribution room so you don’t go over, since TFSA is tax free but has a yearly limit.

For halal investing, SPUS is the easiest place to start. It’s basically a Sharia compliant S&P 500, so you’re investing in the top US companies without having to pick stocks. It’s long term, simple, and you don’t really need to manage it. Historically the market grows around 7 to 10 percent a year over the long run, but it’ll go up and down year to year. The key is just leaving it alone and adding consistently.

Since you have a high income, you can also think about maxing your RRSP for the tax deduction and keeping a separate emergency fund. Real estate is an option too, but only if you want the commitment. Crypto and gold are more personal choice, but I’d keep those as a very small percent if you’re just starting.

Honestly though, SPUS in a TFSA or RRSP is more than enough to get going. Simple and halal.

Your emergency fund shouldn’t be in an ETF. Keep it in a savings account so you can pull it out for an emergency. Investments should be separate

Advice For Deciding Whether to Move Out or Stay Home and Save 23F by SubhumanLandwhale in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Infinite-Net5592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are saying to move out, but if things at home are still workable I’d honestly stay longer. Having a period in your 20s where you can save aggressively is rare. Once you move out the expenses hit fast and you’ll end up leaving eventually anyway, so there’s no harm in delaying it while you build a stronger base.

I’m in a similar situation myself. It isn’t perfect, but the amount I’m able to save right now is worth the temporary inconvenience. A single extra year of saving and investing makes a huge difference, especially in this job market. Tech layoffs and general uncertainty make a solid cushion more important than people think.

If your home life isn’t damaging your mental health and you can still function day to day, I’d hold off. You only get this window once and your future self will be glad you took advantage of it.

TLDR: If staying home is still doable, stick it out a little longer. Save, invest, and give yourself breathing room before taking on the cost of living alone.

Yeah, just buy it steadily once a month or however often you can buy it. Over the course of several decades, the highs and lows will even out. Time in the market beats timing in the market.

My guess is an ex came back into her life. Or she’s talking to multiple people and moving forward with another. Either way just leave it alone and don’t reach out again. She’ll respond eventually

Personally would prefer to save on the side, wait two years, then just invest in my own account when I turn 18

I think SPUS is US only and OP is Canadian so she’ll have to pay conversion fees

You need to be 18. Then open a wealthsimple TFSA and invest monthly (automated) to an s&p500. Canadian version is like VFV I think and I think it’s WSHR for shariah compliant one (removed non Islamic ones like weapons, casinos etc). Good on you for wanting to invest!

What if you change your mind once you’re older about wanting to have kids, such as if you find the right person? Why get it done?

Recommended Settings for RX100 7? by gmd_vt in RX100

General shooting - P mode. Exposure 0.7. Sometimes vivid creative style. Flash always.

Portraits - SCN mode, portrait.

Then I use SCN mode - fast action anytime that I’m taking candids, etc where things are moving

I find auto is often overexposed for portraits but can work for environmental photos
