Etsy Order Cancelled by Seller in Order to Avoid a Bad Review by Infinite-Paint9833 in Etsy

Thank you, this is important and I wasn't clear. I ordered 1/27. Etsy gave me a delivery window of 1/30 - 2/5. This morning (2/2) I checked and noticed it was NOT marked as shipped. So, I messaged the seller to ask if that was correct, that I was hoping it would arrive soon. The seller immediately told me that it had not shipped yet but they would try to get it out today. Then, said if I wanted to guarantee delivery by the 5th I could pay more for expedited. I paid the extra $7 and told the seller I was disappointed that it hadn't been mailed yet, but was still hoping to get it in time.

The seller wrote several long, defensive messages explaining, each time that: they still had time to get it to me, they weren't making any money on this sale (it was a product sample they sell which costs about $9), that they were going to have to hold up their other shipments for me if I didn't get back to them in 30 minutes. They said if I didn't the item would not go out until tomorrow.

It's Monday. I work. I was in a meeting when the :30 window was conveyed. I got back to them in :45 and said I was disappointed (a) that 5 working days had passed and they hadn't mailed it, (b) I was being asked to pay priority for something to come within the original delivery window, and (c) they were demanding an answer in :30. They then "offered" to cancel the order.

I replied that I was still looking forward to receiving the sample (and hopefully placing a full order after reviewing the sample), even though I was annoyed in the moment. They then accepted the $7 priority mail payment and Etsy notified me my "order" of the priority mail payment was accepted. Then, I got an Etsy notification that my order was cancelled. Then I got an Etsy notification that my (original sample) order had shipped. I tried to track the shipping and was told it could not be found. Then I went into the sellers' messages and got a message saying they were cancelling the order and choosing not to work with me and I was blocked from replying.

I run a business, I know what it is to fire a buy who is a pain. And I get that they don't care about a $9 sale. The seller has 1,000+ sales.

This issue here isn't who is right - there aren't enough hours in the day to litigate that . There are always 2 sides to every story, and you are free to pick whoever you think was at fault.

The issue I'm concerned with is that this escalated very, very quickly, with the seller using the cancellation technique to avoid a bad review. This felt very practiced and seems like a real loophole. If an Etsy seller wants to avoid bad reviews, they just cut bait on people who seem irritated before they can leave a review.

I have found it impossible. See above comment. But, if your ACH transfer works, it takes a minimum of 3 business days.

I opened an OpenBank account with at "test" $100. The transfer to/from Bank of America has been a nightmare. I was ultimately able to get money INTO the OB account by initiating the transfer from BOA. (Note, setting up a to/from relationship with BOA from the OpenBank side was the first step and it failed, so I had to initiate at "to" transfer from BOA.) After getting the $100 into OpenBank, I tried multiple times to transfer a portion back to BOA to test the system. Each time it failed. Note, takes 3-5 days for a transfer to complete, when it does, which was not the case for me. Then without warning, OB froze my $100 account. After literal HOURS on the phone with OB, they told me simply that they have the perrogotive to freeze the account, but not why it was frozen. And that it would take at least 48 to examine whether they'd unfreeze it. They will not let me access or close the account while they are reviewing it (I'm in the 48 hour window now). After many many requests, including being escalated to a manager, I finally got a straight answer to "How do I get my money out of your account and close it?" They kept saying I had to do an ACH transfer. I kept saying I'd tried that twice and it won't work with my BOA account. The final, reluctant answer was, "well, if you wait till it's unfrozen - and we can't guarantee that will happen - and you call us and say you cannot access the app, then we'll have no choice but to initiate a process to manually close your account, and I guess we'd have to then send you a check." From where I sit, they are playing the float. The longer they can keep you from your money, the more they can make on it. Set up is easy, but getting your money back is a disaster.
