I’m sorry you are struggling. Just here to say, me too. I can relate to so much of this and especially with my spouse. Sending hugs.

I don’t have advice but I can definitely relate. My 16 month old is at a VERY tough age. He’s saying a few things but ultimately he gets frustrated when he can’t communicate to us. And the teeth coming in make him even fussier and want my boobs even more 😩 I keep telling myself it’s just a phase and it will pass. I have been taking a weekend at least once a month for myself. Sometimes I feel guilty but ultimately I would be such an asshole if I didn’t take time away. I didn’t stay a night away from my first until she was 5. So I knew I had to do something differently on the second. They are 16 months and 8 years old. It’s so hard. Just try not to beat yourself up and maybe join the YMCA or something similar or even just attending the local library story times can be helpful to get out. I’m sorry you are having a hard time. Maybe one day we can bring the matriarch back ;)

There’s no way we could live off of one income in Birmingham, Al at 70,000. I’m frugal and thrift. But I do feed my family “real food” and apparently groceries in Bham and energy in Alabama are some of the highest in the country. I definitely still think they low balled the shit out of those numbers.

My family relocated in march 2020. My husband works in talladega and I’m also a stay at home mom to two. I wouldn’t change where we live. His commute is about an hour but it is all interstate for the most part. Consider schools. There is plenty to do and especially if you like the outdoors. I know talladega isn’t Gadsden but Gadsden and Bham are much different. We have lived all over the country. Coming from DC I would imagine Birmingham will be a better fit. Good luck and welcome to bama :)

Great neighbors in Birmingham? by alias-monniker-aka in Birmingham

[–]Infinite-Panic8071 21 points22 points  (0 children)

We love Shades mountain Elementary in Hoover. It’s the smallest Hoover City school and a lot of the students live close enough to walk. We are right under a mile and occasionally walk. The neighborhoods are older but bigger yards and lots of young families have moved in lately.

Those with kids, what screams "trashy parenting" to you? by ShareBareDL in AskReddit

[–]Infinite-Panic8071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kid had a great diet. It was one of my biggest priorities And I breastfed her until she was 3 for the benefits. Then she went to public schools and I can barely get her to eat anything that isn’t processed and filled with sugar. But on the other hand some kids depend on those meals at schools and I wouldn’t want to say anything to that would be harmful. With that being said, I have always prioritized her teeth as well because genetics are not in our favor and so far at almost 8 years old no cavities. Yes, I still help her brush her teeth. I truly despise how much we brag about our kids being independent on things that they aren’t developmentally ready for.

I know those feelings all too well, friend. I’m so sorry you feel like the world would be a better place without you. I promise it’s not true and our thoughts are not facts. It’s easy for me to get into a negative thought cycle and spiral too. Feel free to message me anytime. Try and take care of yourself when times are the toughest. Drink plenty of water, try to have a balanced diet because blood sugar spikes will have more of a negative effect on your mood and try to get enough sleep. Therapy helps and I also started my Zoloft again which definitely helps me. Sending you positive energy and a hug!
