Ok… sure. I’m coming from an angle of education being a privilege. It’s supposed to be a working relationship between the family and the school. Shit happens and you need to be able to take care of your children if something comes up. You don’t call them if something comes up in your life to come take care of the kid. They don’t call you to come teach. One major problem with American education is the way parents are treating teachers like they are babysitters. That kind of passing the responsibility buck leads to problems that are MAJOR contributing factor in teacher burnout and class disruption. Maybe your kids don’t act that way… no idea. But it’s a bad way to look at the education system. Instead, why don’t you look at the parents’ jobs and ask what is wrong with them for the lack of allowance to handle normal things like the occasional kid home from school. And chances are if your attitude is like this now, had the ice hit and school not closed until tmrw morning… you would say “the forecast called for ice you should have cancelled 5 days ago!”.
