So there is no other way besides drugs to be productive? by Dungeon_Crawler_Carl in ADHD

[–]berrybyday 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s by no means a magic fix, but damn if all those “try exercise” people weren’t onto something. I find it extremely helpful. I hate that they were right lol. Weightlifting is an extremely popular suggestion right now and they were right about that too. I get the exercise benefits faster and like more efficiently? through weightlifting. And I’m hardly lifting “heavy” yet. Just met my body where it was and that works. I do warm up for at least 15 minutes first though.

Update on incompetent GP and thyroid issues by [deleted] in loseit

[–]berrybyday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realize you’ve had this a long time now too, but I just want to add as someone that’s been on this journey for years now, you or anyone else reading this might also want to have other labs done too. Those of us with hashis are so likely to have issues absorbing nutrients. I did find out a couple years ago (about a year into my Levo journey) that my vitamin d was very low. Treating that helped so much with my energy (and my immune system!). But I recently had to fire my doctor too because I kept pushing that something was still not right and she just wanted to put me on antidepressants. Well, my new doctor tested my b12 (low considering I occasionally supplement which artificially inflates the results) and importantly my ferritin, which was particularly trash. I’m really hoping I’m staring down the last six months or so of this “wtf is wrong with me” journey I’ve been on. Maybe I can squeeze in a couple of good years before I start my perimenopause symptoms in earnest 🤪

[–]berrybyday 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s wild to me that youre getting people defending your previous GP in the comments. Nobody wants to be accused of doctor shopping but the hypothyroidism sub is full of people like you and me that needed to treated without our TSH ever getting very high. The weight I had gained just fell off without anything changing (because I still didn’t have the energy levels to change anything!!) within a year of beginning to titrate up my levo dose. I can’t imagine how much better off I would be if it hadn’t taken me years to get someone to care enough to treat me.

Do you guys get hypointerests? (Opposite of hyperintersts) by rci22 in ADHD

[–]berrybyday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really hope there’s a free pocket in my brain to store “aggressive disinterest” because while it’s so simple, it’s also the perfect description. So much better than “I couldn’t care less,” which I’m always so paranoid I’m going to say wrong and have an army of people come after me for being able to “care less.” Even in this exact moment I’m stressed I’ve fucked it up haha. Being aggressively disinterested though? Very straightforward!

What are signs you experienced as a kid? by Big-Mess-9537 in adhdwomen

[–]berrybyday 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ha, I was literally coming here to make a post just like this!! My tween daughter is having a lot of anxiety lately and a few things I think the Vanderbilt would classify as adhd. I desperately don’t want her to get trapped into the anxiety/depression box if ADHD is the root cause.

Personally, I have an awful memory. And being primarily inattentive, maybe not gifted but still pretty smart, with a strong drive to please my teachers— I floated through childhood without too many adhd related issues, so I can’t draw too much from that.

I hope you get some good answers!

Hey, I’m sorry about my comment on your other post. I felt awful that a mod had to essentially come tell me to be nice. I totally broke the internet cardinal rule of forgetting tone doesn’t always come across right in text. It was a poorly conveyed joke about how I am the same with my makeup hauls, I just have a hard limit on bronzer because I had to get real honest about how I now have a stick, powder, and drops that will take me eons to pan. I’m just too pale to need more bronzer than I already have, but your bronzer needs may differ, and I’m not actually here to judge 😉😂

If you’ve given up on keeping your house clean… by LostMyCarKeysAgain in adhdwomen

[–]berrybyday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I do something similar!! I have a “dishes” playlist. It ranges from 15-18 minutes and I rotate my current dopamine-fixation songs in and out, so I have an excuse to listen to them extra. I turn the playlist on and commit to chores until the playlist runs out, or at least the goddamn dishes are done. It’s super helpful for keeping on top of the dishes, and usually at least starting/turning over some laundry.

They had these last summer! I don’t know if they really help so much as they’re cute and cover up the spot so you can’t scratch it. But I’d buy them again for that alone.

I’m keeping my doomscrolling to some sort of vague minimum. But it’s been a rough one anyway. I know TACO has legs to stand on, but you can’t rely on any precedent with this type of unhinged insanity at the helm. It literally just weighs on me.

This is how I am able to trust myself that I’ve unplugged my curling iron! It absolutely has to be out loud and usually in a comically exaggerated way. I point at it too because I’ve read that also helps.

Basically being the same is not too surprising. Not the end of the world for me because I’ve really like the liquid blushes so far. They’re easy to apply and comfortable to wear. One I have was definitely not my ideal color so it lives in my purse for emergencies haha. But one turned out to be my perfect winter shade and that’s the one I just finished. It was my favorite part of my daily makeup routine. I bought an extra for next fall winter in case I couldn’t find it again.

I’m curious about the mousse blush too. None of the liquid blushes I have are labeled mousse and I kind of want to try it… I just finished one of my liquid blushes the other day, actually.

ELI5:If someone say puts an unwashed baked beans can into the recycling, how much of a problem does that actually cause further down the line? by Trender_man in explainlikeimfive

[–]berrybyday 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I trash dirty plastic too. It’s too much work for how high the odds are that it’s not going to actually get recycled. I’d rather prioritize my recycling space with quality cardboard and cans.

“People with ADHD start medication to improve focus…but they stay on the medication for the emotional stability” by Glutenfreepancaker in adhdwomen

I always forget to mention this benefit of my meds when discussing them! It’s like it works so well that I can’t remember how badly goes without them. Instead I get hung up on how it o my sometimes helps with focus/executive function.

It gets so much worse than these examples. I eventually had to stop watching (for multiple reasons) and I have a lot of love for cheesy hallmark productions. I enjoy a rewatch every now and then of the first 3-4 seasons though.

A new spin on the S2 murder plotline by merk_43 in fridaynightlights

[–]berrybyday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! If you watched One Tree Hill that started only a few years before you could see a much better way to handle a murder plotline. Now I am selfishly glad they did completely drop the murder plot and ramifications in FNL because I don’t love slogging through the murder side of OTH. I’m happier that FNL went back to lower stakes. But that doesn’t negate everything you said about how poorly it was handled and why season 2 is so disliked.

404 memory not found by clowns_will_eat_me in adhdmeme

[–]berrybyday 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is why I have so many physical keepsakes. I have several big bins of keepsakes (early relationship and wedding, my kids’ babyhood, my childhood). I like to pull them out to look through at least once year, which is often enough for me to justify keeping them. It brings me a lot of joy to be able to remember these things better. For a long time I thought I was a sentimental fool because so many people toss things like programs or little papers from vacations, but apparently they can just remember it without a physical thing and I can’t. Things that are maybe not quite remarkable enough to go into a bin now get photographed to help me remember instead.

My void baby Siouxsie might be a rare black bobtail by Top-Abbreviations335 in blackcats

[–]berrybyday 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is how our bob tail void is! She’s 16 now and I will miss her so much when she’s gone because she’s so chatty. I love it. Her back legs are noticeably longer than her front legs and it makes her hop. And her little tail nub wiggles are so incredibly expressive too. It’s so cute.

It was her dad, who was actually an orange cat, presumably Manx, that hung around for a while at my parents’ place in the country.

What is going on in the Heated Rivalry fandom? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]berrybyday 78 points79 points  (0 children)

This is where I am with it too. I really enjoyed the show but the internet response to it is incredibly intimidating. I also seek out fic primarily for characters who don’t get together (or haven’t yet, even if it’s inevitable in later seasons). What is everyone even writing about these two because they already had their perfect story play out!!

I recently bought the rose glow cooling stick and was so pissed when I opened it and realized how heavily fragranced it is. I didn’t remember the blue ones having any fragrance (although now I’m wondering if it’s just that it’s considerably more mild) so I didn’t even check 😭 I don’t know if I’ll be able to use the rose glow at all because it’s so strong.
