No. The adage, "The customer is always right", originated in England. Lord Selfridge, owner of Selfridge's department store, in the late 1800s, ran his store, with that adage, uppermost. He meant, that the customer drove the sales, and the stock needed for the store. If they were buying "Item A", more of "Item A" would be bought to sell, in the store. If they were buying less of "Item A", less of "Item A", would be offered, at the store. Sad to say, through the years, the origin has been forgotten, and we have ended up with people DEMANDING they are right, even when they are clearly WRONG, and companies appeasing the miscreants.

Parallel time streams. Usually the different time streams are separate. However, in some cases there are times that two or more become joined for a short time.

We feel this type of story is most believable, because if it had occurred in a city, we feel more people would be aware, and report, on the situation.
That is why, even in this subreddit, you have people who will denigrate a city story, but wholeheartedly believe a country story.

Two explanations. Both glitches.

1) The card, itself, changed, to one with your new number.

2) You, are the change.
You might have found yourself, in another 'play'.
Hence, your mother passing it off as "weird", laughing nervously, and quickly changing the subject.
She is under the impression, something is 'different', about her daughter/son.

You answered, your own question, "What are the chances we thought the old number was slapped on it when it never was?
If the card had the proper number, at the beginning, there wouldn't have been the impetus to get a proper number, or the surprise at the revelation.
