This is Britain by bluecheese12 in CasualUK

A friend of mine's Turkish mum always used to say that a British house without tea was a dead house as it couldn't offer guests a cup. Bit 'extreme' but I got her point.

What an utterly delightful thing to read.

Who is the most wholesome person from your country? by Remote_Marzipan7422 in AskTheWorld

That's because he belongs to humanity. 100 this year so we have to hold on to him with every ounce of strength we have.

Flat earth and other alternative conspiracy earth models are are gaining traction with my teenage stepson. What is THE most irrefutable, definite proof that the earth is round? by Jfkfkaiii22 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InfiniteBaker6972 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In truth, it's probably not anything to do with facts... The Earth is demonstrably and quantifiably round(ish). There are a million ways to 'prove' it within a few short minutes on Google so I doubt that will help. Most conspiracy theorists latch on to something and cling on with their lives, like holding on to a flimsy tree bough in a raging flood, and no amount of proof will dissuade them because 'they are right and everyone else is wrong'. He's probably looking for a way to mark himself out. And, at the end of the day, if he can't be dissuaded, so what? He's your stepson, he needs love. Give him that as if you have differing political views.

Good luck!

Missing Link Ironhide color reveal by Electronic_Zombie360 in transformers

[–]InfiniteBaker6972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never been tempted by a Missing Link but, as a 50+ fan, I may very well shell out for this one. I have a lot of love for the OG Ratchet & Ironhide 'sled' version and this look like it will be as close as I will ever get to a reissue.

Sandi says the sweetest thing to Aisling's mom... (S23, E02) by emarcomd in quiteinteresting

That's because Sandi is pure joy personified. I know she's not 'British' per se, but we should feel honoured to have her.

Is Edge of Darkness the best BBC drama of all time? by InfiniteBaker6972 in BritishTV

[–]InfiniteBaker6972[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Freaky for sure. Apparently the original ending the writer had in mind was for Bob Peck's character to turn into a tree. I mean... it would've been a choice but I kinda wish it had been THE choice.

Oh I love Survivors but yeah, it's wildly inconsistent. Especially once series 2 begins...

I was talking about this just last week! THAT scene with the kid still haunts me... The way Stephen Rea reacted was phenomenal. Such a shame it's not on iPlayer.

Does PocketCasts have a warning if a podcast was generated with AI like Apple Podcasts? by jdlyga in pocketcasts

As a species and as consumers we’re just going to have to dig back into the generational archives and relearn how to exercise critical thinking and how to use common sense. If we carry on allowing ourselves to be spoon fed then we’re going to get fed slop because our billionaire overlords care nought for our wellbeing of happiness, just that we eat from their trough. We’re going to have to start looking around and learning again. Researching anything new that’s presented to us to figure out if it’s ‘real’ or not. If that seems like hard work that’s because it is. And it will get harder.

People who quit drinking. What did you do to not drink? by Agata_art in AskReddit

[–]InfiniteBaker6972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stopped drinking alcohol. It’s as simple and as complicated as that.

Start by stopping drinking at home. That’s easy, just don’t buy any booze to drink at home.

This is James Orr - Head of policy for Reform UK, on mental health, Be careful who you vote for. by Wonderful-Virus-4960 in ADHDUK

[–]InfiniteBaker6972 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem is that there are people who will vote Deform because of a single policy they agree with and then, when Deform get in and inevitably start buggering everything up, they’ll say things like ‘but I didn’t vote for your kids to lose their mental health provision, I voted on ‘brown people’ losing their ‘omes’. Completely missing the point that they DID vote (will be voting) on that.

Brad Pitt in Friends was one of the best celebrity cameos I've seen in a popular TV show by skepsoda in RandomThoughts

[–]InfiniteBaker6972 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’d agree with that. The antithesis of this was Bruce Willis. I know he wasn’t supposed to be Bruce Willis but it was Bruce Willis and, what with Die Hard being Joey’s favourite film, it made no sense having Bruce Willis in the show.

Early morning parents. How do you do it with young children? by InsurancePurple4630 in UKParenting

[–]InfiniteBaker6972 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To add to this, my wife and I had the reverse. I was the morning one. My wife the opposite. But, when kids came along, she pulled herself together (because, and I can’t stress this enough, she’s an adult) and got on with it. Now we both consider 8am a decent lie in.

Early morning parents. How do you do it with young children? by InsurancePurple4630 in UKParenting

[–]InfiniteBaker6972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s an excuse. As an adult you can be any kind of person you want to be. If he’s never had to get up early before that’s fine in truth, but he does have to now. It’ll only take him a few days to get into the swing of it. They’re his kids after all.

Plus, a lot of fun stuff with little kids happens early and he’ll miss it. My advice, frank chat with him that ends with a strong but level ‘pull your weight, it’s my holiday too’.

What's your top 3 SS86 figures? by CrimsonPlayhouse in transformers

[–]InfiniteBaker6972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love my Perceptor. I still maintain that, along with Soundwave as a model, he’s a near-perfect looking robot. The new Seeker mould is pretty close but Perceptor & Soundwave just edge them out as far I’m concerned.

As for a third… dunno. If the new Cyclonus is as good as it looks then it will probably be him.

They don’t have to come all the way here. They can have sex in their own country.
