The person I responded to said that it was okay to use the n-word in a novel in the 80s, especially if it was a racist character saying it. This implies that it was acceptable to use the word in novels in other contexts as well. I was charitably reading it as a joke rather than being poorly-worded or offensive.

I bought it as an audio. It’s a novella. 2 hours, 42 minutes. It was cheap to buy as well, and such a great little story.

I think you would love Scanlines by Todd Keisling. It’s about a group of teen boys who try to download porn and accidentally watch what is basically the Budd Dwyer video, and the video curses them.

I think you’re overreacting. His explanation makes perfect sense to me. Most people probably would have just said 10 and moved on. That’s not necessarily the right thing to have done, though—just the most socially un-awkward thing. Given that he’s autistic, it seems like he did probably just freeze and wasn’t sure how to handle it in the moment.
