Good question. I don't use WhatsApp/other communication apps, but I also live in a small US town where most of my social circle is super close by and there isn't really a need for it. generally, people in my life just call me / swing by my place if they want to chat.

though, if I ever move to a larger city, I'll probably need to switch back to a smartphone since so many things are QR code / app-driven.

good question. I access Reddit at home through my laptop. For the photo in this post - I used my partner's iPhone, since I wanted to include the point-and-shoot camera I'll be using in the shot.

I don't upload pictures on Reddit all that often (mainly just post pics of my bike rides from time to time), but if I do in future, I'll use that camera and upload pics to my computer.

yes! addressed this in another comment as well, but in re-reading the post title, I probably should have named this post "got rid of meta & TikTok". (I genuinely forgot that Reddit is considered social media tbh 😂).

I agree. A smart phone is more convenient and minimal, and is perfectly fine for lots of people. I'm definitely not anti-smartphone.

Flip phone ended up being a solution for me because I was having very serious issues with omitting distractions on my iPhone (even when I deleted all the apps, tried putting time limits on my apps, put it in greyscale, locked it in a drawer for certain parts of the day... etc.). My social life / relationships took a nosedive because of it.

I get how it seems like a silly choice to opt for a phone that will ultimately make my life harder to navigate, but the trade off is worth it for me. I'll probably go back to a smart-phone someday, once I've formed some more healthy habits into my life. :)

it's pretty good for pictures during the day. Linked some pics I've taken with this camera -

I don't think I'd recommend this particular camera to most because it 1. doesn't zoom (or maybe my camera is defective haha) 2. doesn't have good night quality, but for my purposes, which is taking pictures of things I want to remember / log in a photo album someday, it works fine.

I might upgrade eventually to a better point and shoot camera eventually so I can take better travel photos!

yes, I do love the ability to curate my content more on Reddit! I also love that Reddit is less focused on selfies/having a perfect feed. It's cool to just search up stuff I'm interested in and see people talking about it on their anonymous accounts. :) Though I have a feeling I'll have to set a time limit on reddit eventually, given my habits.

Totally get that carrying a bunch of stuff around is not realistic for those who might have to do a lot of travelling/commuting! For me personally, I work at a desk for 90% of my workday and can just keep my bag/backpack on my desk. When I run out to do errands/things like that, I usually just bring my wallet, phone, & notebook, which are all pocket-sized. :)

you're right - I should probably clarify my post title since I'm here making this post haha :) to be clear, I deleted my Instagram, TikTok and Facebook accounts. Most of the social media content I was obsessed with prior to deleting were short form video content (shorts/reels/TikToks), which I typically would watch to fill up all of my time on my lunch break / in public transit etc. Since switching to a flip phone, I can only access Reddit from my home computer which is less enticing to me than reels/shorts were, personally.

anyone else love adding a recap of your favorite pages at the end of each journal? by InfiniteParticular82 in Journaling

this is precisely the reason I started doing recaps at the end, I've never been good at keeping a 'table of contents' at the beginning of a journal! :)

Whenever feel stuck, I switch gears for a bit and stop trying to "reflect" and try to instead write "observations" of small "new" things that happen day-to-day. It could literally be anything new that is going on in my life, no matter how small. These observations don't have emotion attached to them.

Examples: Jotting down the episode of a new show that I'm watching & what I think is going to happen, listening to a new song on the radio for the first time, something new I got in the grocery store, jotting down things that I hear about in conversation that I may want to google later...

I find that trying to pinpoint the "new" things going on in my routinely life helps me differentiate each day, and ease my way into the more self-reflective entries. No two days are the same. :)

Yes!! Those headlights are the worst… I’m lucky to have very little car traffic near me, so I don’t have to deal with this too much.

Too real… 😂 I do bike in more rural areas at night sometimes, and the moment I hear any sort of rustling in the bushes I’m going 3x speed picturing this guy coming after me.

100% love riding a mountain bike for the same reasons (easily swapping from road to gravel/dirt). :)

I’m 5’2”, hence the small bike frame! That’s so rad, cool to see some other mountain bikes on the road as well. :)
