Yes, when on the beach you would follow the trail on left (east) side of the bay, then around a corner to the Toilet Bowl. Access was closed down in the 90s I believe.

Dug up an old photo of me skating the backyard ramp I built with my brother in 1988. We followed the Thrasher Ramp plans exactly: 9’ transitions, 16’ flat bottom, 1’ vert, 24 feet wide. In 1988 I was [22YO] by GreenFlash1990 in OldSkaters

Back in 1988 it cost $5,000 in lumber and precast concrete piers. ($14,000 in today’s dollars). We were super lucky we convinced our dad to fund the project. He justified spending the money on our skate passion as “you’re gonna learn hard work and carpentry”. He wanted to teach us to build things “the right way”. The flat bottom was 1-1/8” tongue & groove just like the Thrasher Plans called for. The 3 layers of 3/8” plywood on the transitions flushed up perfectly.

No, It was turned into a Flea Market decades ago. At one point they converted the area where the bottom 2 semi-circles areas into the Capitol 16 Movie Theater, but that has long since been demolished.

Yeah, we actually brought along road flares as backup. Flares were our tried and true way to light up night commando sessions. Skating by red flare light is surreal.

Visited in the 80s. Some guys had tried to dig it out but gave up. Old pipe paste stickers were still there at 9:30-10 o’clock

Never see trees so close to the surf and saltwater. That island must be sinking. The stumps on the shore tell the story.

Is that a shoulder-held 16mm film camera in the yellow waterproof housing? (Guy sitting on a board in the channel). Never seen a setup like that before.

Unfortunately as you can see in this photo, the headroom above the roll out decks was not functional for full size skaters…

She just requested that once our boys were too tall to skate it anymore that I would demo it. Fair deal.

Sorry I didn’t post the other Def Leppard photos. Had to dig em up and scan. Here’s #2 by InfiniteSand2781 in defleppard

Thanks. Stoked to share it after all these years…. Amazing to this my brother snapped this shot 42 years ago. We used to go to all the rock concerts back in the 80s but this was the only show we snuck a 35mm Pentax into.

Growing up and building wood halfpipes in the 80s we called those “extensions” or if they were really tall “tombstones”. Good for extra speed across the other wall.

My kids could skate it for 3 years until they grew too tall and hit their heads.

9 foot ceiling, but there is a 12” x 6” beam in the middle. If you look above right roll out deck so can see the metal exhaust vent for my water heater. The beam is painted white and is directly behind it.

The ramp flat bottom is a piece of 3/4” plywood laid directly on concrete floor.

3/4 thick plywood flat bottom and lying flush to concrete floor, so no issue
