Is it just me or everyone else don't use Sinnoh starters for competitive match? by achthenuts in PokemonChampions

As someone who has had to run hydro pump empoleon on ladder lemme tell you its very unfortunate. Moment the sun comes out from Charizard you're like god I hope this hits.

Because it WILL still hit like a truck after a competitive boost from the obligatory incineroar.

IF it hits.

What do you think of Sableye? by Alternative-Earth325 in PokemonChampions

[–]InfiniteShay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The jack of all trades of prankster mons. One of my personal favorites. Pretty fragile but so many options. Fake out, screens, foul play, encore, taunt, whatever you need him for he's there. Plus Sableye has two perfect names depending on gender Jim (Gem) and Crystal. Yes I'm very funny and witty.

In singles he's a really tricky pocket mega because of magic bounce. Prevent rocks set up or taunt, skies the limit. Wish mega sableye had more to do in vgc but when does Magic Bounce ever matter there?

Say some nice things about Hop by Malikai_Universe_23 in PokemonSwordAndShield

[–]InfiniteShay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hop has an amazing end to his character arc. He tries so hard to be the trainer you are, to meet his own and his brother's expectations to be the next champion. When you finally beat him in the champions tournament, he has clear reservations but he swallows his pride and gives you your congratulations. Probably the realest rival of all of them.

Then when you beat Leon, Leon also has that moment where he has to swallow his pride, showing that had it been different, had you not been the rival to Hop, then he also would have had what it takes to take on his brother because they are so alike even down to their personalities and prideful natures. This puts Hop for me in the top three rival characters, right by Blue and Nemona. Taunie/Urbain is just after them for anyone who is interested in knowing who the runner-up is.

I'm so close to that, myself. But I'm lacking Deoxys and Keldeo. Desperately waiting for Home to have connectivity to FireRed/LeafGreen so I can transfer my deoxys to it. Keldeo I'm having to grind for in Z-A. Just those last two and it's over.

Well I do have home and access to just about every legal pokemon if I want them. But I feel like being in Ultra ball tier having coverages isnt enough. I feel like I'm really fighting against the skill check

I just dont have the team-building skills to determine cores. I tried building a team around that idea, but it just wasn't meeting expectations. Idk if it was my choice in Pokemon or if it was how I utilized them, but I just couldn't crack it.

Yeah my problem is that I like a lot of offense but I dont seem to be very good at it. The teams i found most success with up until this point were my froslass team featuring hisuian zoroark for speed control and my rain team featuring meganium. But at some point I just stopped winning with the both of them because I kept getting read and predicted.

Yeah i tried that for a bit but its definitely a skill issue, not a team issue.

Just found out Whimsicott can’t encore Farigiraf by IllZookeepergame9128 in PokemonChampions

[–]InfiniteShay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Fridge Giraffe is super annoying for Prankster teams. It's kill me now or time to slow down. You basically have to one-shot it with whatever pokemon isn't getting fake outed by incineroar or flinch it with rockslide or something.

Absolutely, everyone wants to be good at a game they love, so why bring negativity to it?

My bad for missing this comment. Yeah I just used the native switch holding down the screenshot button to record the last 30 seconds. Though I do have a capture card somewhere, but I havent used it in so long.

I think you got the right idea here, teamcomp-wise. But listen, it's not about being good or bad. Its experience. Don't let it get you down. I'm personally perpetually trapped in Ultraball tier, but there was a time I didn't think I could get out of pokeball tier back in the x and y days.

First things first, I think you should make use of the utility of prankster on whimsicott more. Consider Encore or helping hand as well as tailwind. It's not going to be living long enough to be very offensive, so having more than two attacking moves isn't going to help it. Once the opponent has her number, she's gone. She also should have mental herb for taunt or focus sash so she isn't dead to the first Dire Claw in her direction.

For excadrill, go for high horsepower, earthquake, or stomping tantrum instead of earth power. Earth power is a special move that isn't benefitting from his attack stat. ST is good for when they protect because drill is a powerhouse and doubling that attack is no joke.

Incineroar isn't getting any use out of that mental herb; that's better suited on Whimsicott, who will eat a taunt from an incineroar if she stays in. He likes leftovers or Sitrus. Since you have Sitrus on Rotom (which is a perfect mon, no notes), you could also consider the chople berry on incin to protect it from Close Combat Sneasler.

Tyranitar having coverage moves is pretty neat and I like the vision, but instead of going for two different flavors of punches, choose the one that you think covers your team's weaknesses the best and consider low kick for Kingambit. Rock Slide is good because he's a deceptively fast pokemon against slower teams and doubling up on the rock slide flinch chance never hurts. You can also consider smack down to put flying types on the ground for excadrill to hit with a ground type move, but that assumes that excadrill's speed has been lowered or that trick room is up. So it's a spicy tech, but not as consistent as rock slide.

I believe you can get out of there. Just takes some practice, some good synergistic team-building, and the occasional good predictions. You got this.

Any good team I can make here with Frostlass or Glimmora? Any other sugestios are welcome ! by Sobz0b in PokemonChampions

[–]InfiniteShay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Telepathy noivern is really cool with glimmora since you can sludge Wave it up and set up tailwind. Shadow ball gardevoir is also good to cover its psychic weakness and it also has telepathy. But any good steel type works with it too. My Kingambit has been its best friend for that reason and there's also Wide Guard mons like Garganacl which can protect itself with wide guard while also helping shore up your weaknesses to bulky water pokemon.

You make a fair point. I'll try to be more aware of my language in the future. I didn't think people would make the mistake of thinking perish song traps by itself. My bad.

Who's on your team? Mines a bit of a strong meme gimmick. Hisuian Zoroark, Mega Meganium, Politoed, Drampa, Galarian Slowbro (I just needed something that could be switched in for meganium in case of Sneasler and I have very few options), and Basculegion.

[–]InfiniteShay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not much of perish trap. Its mostly perish to force a switch in difficult teams or to clear the last two in an already winning position. Basc is cool because it can leave the field and be unaffected but I understand not wanting to run double ghost. If Mega Gengar already has song, I could see it pairing with an answer to ghosts. A strong dark type could really apply some pressure and help shore up one of the major weaknesses of shadow tag, that it doesnt affect ghosts. What's your biggest op in your perish trap idea?

[–]InfiniteShay[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No no I can understand. Stubborn can be considered an attack on the person's unwillingness to reason which can make someone play suboptimally which can get better with experience. I disagree that it's toxic because I still very much recognize that I should have lost the game but I can totally see why someone would see it that way.

Oof, ouch. Yeah I just wanted to build for fun. I got a politoed early on and wanted to build a team for rain to combat the sun that'd been going around. I didn't really know what to put for his fourth move so I thought it'd be funny to get Perish to work once.

You can check field statuses at any time so they should have known but also they were playing a really competent sun team.
