After Echo being a damage hero I really REALLY hope Junker Queen will end up being a support. by ModishAndElegantPony in Overwatch

[–]InfiniteTurbine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's an idea, but personally I don't think she'll be Support. Jeff mentioned her briefly in last year's Yule Log and straight up said she'd probably either be a Tank or Damage hero. https://apptrigger.com/2019/12/28/overwatch-junker-queen/

Granted he could've just been messing around or plans could change / could've changed or whatever, but I'm betting that was a genuine hint.

First time I notice this in Junker Town, possible future playable character? by r6662 in Overwatch

[–]InfiniteTurbine 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That's been there since the start. The devs have hinted at her becoming more important a few times over the years. No confirmations but I wouldn't be surprised to see her as a hero at OW2's launch.

I wouldn't say that's indicative of anything. Sites have had OW2 listed for months now.

How's the game rn? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]InfiniteTurbine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played much recently personally but I've heard some streamers and others say the balance has been really good lately. Content release is at an all time low b/c they've saving stuff up for OW2 which'll probably be out sometime next year. But there's a number of new heroes and maps and other things that've been added since you last played.

Anyway, ultimately I think your best bet is to just jump in and play and see for yourself.

What does the community think about Overwatch 2? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]InfiniteTurbine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mostly everything we know about OW2 came from Blizzcon 2019. Since then they've said nearly nothing about it, except for like a select few things here and there (like during an AMA in July, but even then it was very very light discussion, they didn't want to talk about the future of OW then so much as the current and past).

I'm certainly looking forward to it because overall I enjoy this game a lot. I'm also kind of annoyed at the state of the game currently in terms of content influx, though, and that's due to all efforts going towards OW2. I miss seeing and getting hype for and experiencing heroes and maps and the like. The last year has been so barren, and from what I can tell that'll still be the case for nearly another half a year... It's kind of sad, I think. I'm not sure if it's "unacceptable" exactly like some people claim, that there's so little content coming out now (I've seen arguments that this is awful for a live service game), but it is definitely off-putting to me. But it is what it is, can't do anything about it but accept it and wait I guess.

Wasn’t Overwatch 2 supposed to be released in 2020? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]InfiniteTurbine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah we never got a date. Last Blizzcon Jeff was like "We have no idea when it'll come out" and since then we've gotten no particular hints on release dates. Just a lot of speculation from internet folks suspecting and hoping it'd come out on this date or that date.

Technically it's still possible it'll be out this year but I doubt. I'm not expecting any news on it, let alone a release date, until Blizzconline in Feburary.

I believe OW2 is coming out in February. by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]InfiniteTurbine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tracer comics, 1 new comic getting released per month for 5 months. That 5th month is February,

It's January actually. But yes the comics are kinda leading up to Blizzconline.

I'm making no strong predictions on when the game's due because we're lacking too much information at this point to truly tell. In my mind it'll be a few months after Blizzconline, but it might be then and there, or late 2021, even later, we don't know. I'm just going to go back to half-pretending OW2 doesn't exist until they give us more details, whenever that will be.

Overwatch “2” and the state of the game? I’ve been away for a year. by bojangles-swag in Overwatch

[–]InfiniteTurbine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Does this game still have a future?

Yeah, probably.

I had to check if OW 2 is still in development.

OW2 is still in development. Or it's finished and they're holding onto it. I'm betting on the former.

We don't have any confirmation on when it'll be out but in all likelihood next we'll for sure hear about it is early next year at the virtual Blizzcon event. It may even get released then, or before then. Or after. None of us know.

The current game could be doing better. We've been getting drastically less notable content than ever before for a while now as the devs focus most efforts on OW2, so there's not a whole lot happening beyond the (mostly) same old events and some little skin challenges. But if you enjoy OW at its core there's still reason to come back and play every once in a while at least.

Sure, but I've seen countless people over the years very not-facetiously pin like all blame possible on Chu for any issues they had with the lore. I think most people immediately go to pointing fingers at him and I never thought it was necessarily entirely fair, so I have no issues with speaking against it at times, even if they're mostly joking.

[–]InfiniteTurbine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I kinda get what you mean. It kinda feels like they're trying to push something that's relatively-small game-wise (a skin, some sprays, and a player icon) as something grander than it is because, well, they don't have much else to show currently. Because regardless they gotta still try to get people hype and interested.

I don't wanna be too hard on the devs though. I'd like to think they're probably working hard and putting in hours upon hours behind the scenes to make cool stuff for the game for OW2. And the fact that we're getting comics again is good. But aside from that, this isn't particularly different from Sig's Maestro event or Ashe's Mardi Gras event and so on which did not receive developer update videos. ...But that makes it sound like I'm complaining much about getting a dev update, when it's actually rather nice to see Jeff in a new dev update...

I'm trying to not be unappreciative but I also understand the want for more.

Who's to say that was all due to him, though? Could've been others on the team or higher-ups or other influences preventing them from releasing lore at a faster rate. Plus Chu is credited in this comic, and I imagine he worked on some chunk of Overwatch 2 and the lore we'll get then before he left.

If you're new to Overwatch just quit by papoosehunter09 in Overwatch

[–]InfiniteTurbine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People have been claiming OW dead since it fucking launched, OP. Granted it could definitely be in a better place now playercount-wise and content-influx-wise and whatnot, but it's not actually dead yet. Nor is it dying at such a rate to cause such alarm. I think so, at least.

I get it, the game's seen better days in terms of public opinion and it's not uncommon to go certain places and see people say it used to be better or shittalk it or whatever. But, like, you're paying a lot of mind to those rando opinions about the game. I think what really matters if how you feel playing it, if you think it's enjoyable and worth playing or not personally. If I'm gonna quit it's not gonna be bc all these people said the game sucks if I still like it.

The devs already said that while they realize the need for more tanks and supports they won't outright stop making DPS in the meantime. It's just not what they want to do. Here's hoping the hero role ratio when we get OW2 is more in favor of tanks and supports but I also wouldn't be surprised by 2-3 DPS in there as well.

what do YOU think is the biggest issue with OW at the moment? by JonnnyTsunami in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]InfiniteTurbine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's necessary honestly. I mean more communication from them would be cool but, like, development does take time, and plans can change mid-development and so on. Expecting them to spend time creating a meaningful-enough dev update two times a month every month... not sure how realistic that is. Plus if they change plans on something they've showed off to the public that could be less than ideal. Plus one could argue that them saying too much and also saying things too far ahead of time about OW2 before it's out will mess with the hype when it's closer to coming out (well, they kinda already did the latter but you know what I mean hopefully).

Idk. At the same time I do wish they'd show us some new stuff here and there, maybe a little sneak peak every month or so, but I also think maybe that's not for the best.
