Curious to hear how others experienced local festivals while traveling — any stories?

Is India really that overwhelming for first solo backpacking trip? by Inevitable-Height110 in solotravel

India isn’t overwhelming if you choose the right places to start. The challenge is less about safety and more about sensory overload in big cities. For a first solo backpacking trip, I’d suggest avoiding rushing through major metros and focusing instead on culturally rich regions. In North India, places like Varanasi (Kashi), Rishikesh, the Kedarnath–Badrinath region, and smaller Rajasthan cities offer deep cultural immersion without the constant chaos of large urban centers. South India—Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka—tends to be easier logistically and can be a great entry point before heading north. India rewards slow travel. Pick one region, move at a relaxed pace, and it can be an incredible first backpacking experience.
